Was this a commom attitude among Democratic voters, media, and politicians from 9/11 until people started turning against Iraq? Did Democrats in Congress and in the media continue to criticize Dubya's approach to taxes, the environment, and stem-cell research while staying quiet about any reservations they had on the PATRIOT Act and Iraq?

I think so. Someone might want to correct me, but I think foreign policy in the US has only ever been sharply partisan in the brief period of 04-06, after Iraq became controversial but before it was generally admitted to be a disaster. Both parties have had hawk and dove wings through modern US history.

Do the same Dems regret the Patriot Act vote? I think a lot of them still would support it as evidenced by the USA Freedom voting and many of the military budgets that keep passing.
