"Russians" by Sting (and Sergei Prokofiev) criticized mid-1980s the cold-war politics of US and Soviet (Russian) leaders at the time. As you might imagine, it was spectacularly unpopular among my peer group (19 y/o white American males, the same age group that voted 70%+ for Reagan).

The ticking clock, visualized in the music video for this song, reminds me of the Doomsday Clock, set at 3 minutes to midnight in 1984, the closest to midnight until Trump took office.

It is, however, a very erudite, even hopeful song. I'm listening to it as I write.

FS, and I was 27 and Pub at the time of the song's release. Of course I'm a big fan of Prokofiev, and Lieutenant Kiji in particular, so it would be hard for me to not like it.
