Adolf Dassler was a Nazi, if any company deserves a lifetime personal ban it's Addidas.

While we're at it, let's talk about Coco Chanel SS-Abwehr asset F-7124, codename Westminster.

On the subject of this thread--the tendency among the woke and would-be woke to overcorrect for Islamophobia and make excuses for or even support aspects of Islam's social and political theology that would be, and in some cases are, rightly excoriated coming from Christianity or Judaism is certainly worth discussing, but I don't think a tempest in a teapot over a Nike ad is the right time or place to have that discussion.

Glad to unite with you for my boycott of Nike in favour of vastly superior Adidas.

Maybe Atlas should have remained invisible to the outside world....

I’m willing to believe this is a low-level mistake, but I’d like to see a retaraction and apology.

Also, would like to note than when Mirzakhani died in 2017, the Iranian press actually broke taboo and used pictures of her with her hair uncovered*. Pretty sad when Nike can’t even match the Iranian media. Even Hassan Rouhani himself posted pictures of her with her hair uncovered.

*Worth noting that this may have just been an attempt to look more progressive and say “hey, we’re breaking the taboo” as almost a publicity stunt, as they did only use old or altered photos when she actually won the Fields in 2014.

The artist should apologise for his or her drawing? The image appears to be from 2013 (foxadhdcom appears to be the source) Or someone finding the image and using it to illustrate the article? I mean, this appears to be a random blowout at Nike and TEH LEFT or somehow deliberately doing this?

While we're at it, can we ban everyone who pronounces it "Naik"?

Deliberate, no. But inconsiderate, yes.

Nike is part of the "modern left"? Mhmm....
probably not, but they certainly want to sell them a lot of shoes.  Hence their recent virtue signaling.  Most companies do it, it's not like Nike is special here.

So? Actions have consequences.

I sold all my Nike stock I bought in response to them signing Colin Kaepernick now.

Most likely Nike just wanted it to be known that they were honoring a Muslim woman, but Mirzakhani looked nothing like the typical image of a Muslim woman, so this was their solution. The fact that some Muslim women reject the Hijab probably never even occurred to them.
