It is/was the case in a few Eastern European countries, don't know whether it's also the case in the UK (but it would really surprise me). I don't really understand why though (I guess the Eastern European countries just wanted to get the women out of the workforce lol).

Apparently the law in this regard is changing to slowly raise the retirement age for women until it matches men, which will happen this year. (See the end of the article; looks like it's already 63 for women rather than 60 -- I think this case started a long time ago given the dates in the article.)

The retirement age by gender is different in several countries, including here in Austria (65 for men and 60 for women). The retirement age for women will be raised to 65 step-by-step between 2024 and 2033, according to a pension reform law passed by SPÖVP a few years ago.

The conservative ÖVP always wanted to streamline the female pension age quickly and also raise it more generally to 67 years for both genders (which is currently not necessary budget-wise, but might be in the future). But Kurz said a few months ago that this would only happen in a 2nd ÖVP-FPÖ term (raising the pension age is hardly popular).

Their coalition partner FPÖ (far-right populist) is generally opposed to raising the pension age for women earlier (but of course could still change their minds).

It was the case but isn't anymore. It was a hangover from lower female labour marker participation and the culture of compulsory retirements at pensionable age.
