I have a piece of paper in which I record which Atlas users have told me "yes," "no," or did not tell me anything clear or at all .... when I asked them whether they would support my proposal for rewriting the 14th Amendment. My paper says that you were "no," which I recall disappointed me. Please remember that the details I included in the proposal were designed to be a balance between liberal and conservative points of view. I also realize now that I forgot to reveal that there is one other detail in my proposal.

You're a citizen now, but you came here as an "alien." My proposal is designed to prevent the federal courts from ruling that the Equal Protection Clause requires states/localities from "discriminating" against aliens. I have long thought that it's absurd for the SCOTUS to interpret the EP Clause that way; it is surely beyond the clause's original intent. (Tons of stuff that have been done are beyond the clause's original intent.) So there is some case law on the topic of discrimination that I am proposing to overturn. But the SCOTUS has also ruled that a secondary - sort of back-up - reason for why state and local governments are not allowed to discriminate against aliens is because only the federal government is empowered, by the Constitution, to regulate immigration. The Court has, at least twice that I'm aware of, said that states are not allowed to interfere with a power the Constitution delegates to the federal government - to control the flow of immigrants to the United States. I was careful to say, in my proposal, that we will continue to allow the federal courts to reason that way. We are only trying to rewrite the 14th Amendment so that federal judges will not wantonly, willy-nilly, strike down state and local laws they do not like.

So, can you reconsider? Do you really think we need to keep Roe? (I think that was one of your objections.)

1. I think enforcement of immigration law should only be determined at the federal level so Id say both sanctuary cities and SB 1070 are unconstitutional. Now I would say prop 187 would be constitutional because the state is providing services so they should be able to set the rules on who gets them or not.

2. Depends on what you mean by repealing of Roe though. I would support significantly rolling it back where states are allowed to implement bans as long as they have the basic exceptions in place. So basically Id support replacing the Roe/Casey standard with the basic exception standard.

If you could appoint judges, would you rather appoint people who previously served as public defenders/civil rights attorneys or people who previously served as prosecutors/corporate attorneys?

I would say an ideal world we need a mix of both but for me what is more important is what their judicial philosophy is and I support appointing judges with a strict constructionist philosophy to the bench regardless is they were previous public defenders or prosecutors.

Which 2024 GOP nominee would you be most satisfied with?

My top 5 candidates for 2024 are:

1. Ron DeSantis
2. Marco Rubio
3. Tim Scott
4. Nikki Haley
5. Glenn Younkin

The reason I have DeSantis first is I believe he has proven to be the most effective in being able to push both the Overton window and institutions in general to the right and do it in a pragmatic way to. The education issue is a great example of this where he banned CRT from being used in education but at the same time increased teacher pay and that shows he is interested in implementing conservative policies in a way that not only addresses modern problems but does it in a way that most people would benefit from.

The reason Haley has dropped on my list is she still seems to be stuck in 2004 when addressing problems.

How did you become more socially and culturally conservative as time passed?

I would say my personal values always leaned traditionalist over progressive but the reason I identified as a social liberal for many years was that I believed it wasn't the government's job to get involved in it. Also in my high school years and my early college years, I genuinely believed that over time society was destined to get better as time passes which is why I overall identified myself as socially liberal.

As I got older though, I started to get less optimistic about that as I started to see society getting less religious didn't make people more rational as people claimed it would. Also the traditional family structure breaking down didn't seem to make society in better, and arguably it made it more angrier which is another reason Id say I moved more socially conservative as I do think we need to rebuild the family structure that has completely broken down.

Despite that though I still viewed my self a passive traditionalist where I believed in traditional values, I believed in a passive approach policy-wise. That really started to change in the summer of 2020 when you saw law and order break down and Democratic Governors and Mayors do nothing when that happened which ended up ruining up so many great cities(including Portland). At the same time all these riots were going on you saw scientists go on tv and the same ones who said it was terrible for people to eat in restaurants started to say protesting on the street is ok cause the issue mattters just as much as COVID. That really showed that even science as a institution got politized and it got worse when you later found out that the lab leak theory was supressed cause they didnt want to seem to side with Trump. That happened at the same time when people were getting censored on social media for posting that theory so again it shows how politized our institutions had gotten.

Another thing that happened in the summer of 2020 and since is you saw a push by leftist intellectuals to fundamentally alter education in this nation where our founders get treated as villains rather than heroes, are nation gets viewed as evil and uniquely racist rather than judge by the standard of the world as the whole of those times etc. This was happening at the same time Democrats claimed that all those changes werent happening and really the only way to stop that from happening though is to ensure material like the 1619 project does not get taught in schools.

Lastly, Id say what pushed me to the right on social/cultural issues is cancel culture. You see people repeatedly getting censored/banned on social media for holding opinions that were commonplace just 5 years ago , the media outright lying about legislation after legislation that was passed by Republicans. You saw this idea also get floated that not actions on cultural issues is the same as taking a side which is an extremely toxic but sadly that idea got implented and now nearly every institution in our nation is pushing our nation left on cultural/social issues while Democrats gaslight the nation by claiming they arent pushing for any of these issues when the real reason they dont is cause they dont need to.

All of this has made me realize that one that modern liberalism(which isnt that liberal anymore) isnt interested in letting people live their lives the way they want but rather in shoving their agenda down everyone's throat . Number two that a passive approach wont work as that will just result in traditional values being steamrolled so due to that I believe that an assertive approach needs to be taken and thats why I identify as a social conservative now.

Congratulations on 30,000 posts. You are a true institution of this forum.

1. If you could change one event in American history, what would it be?

2. Would you agree/disagree that the Democrats who run your state identify the right problems in Oregon and just have the wrong solutions? Or are they more out of touch with the needs of Oregonians and focus too much on wedge/side issues.

3. Do you see yourself as 'Old School' in other areas of life?

4. How do you inform yourself about politics?

1. Have Reconstruction end successfully so either Jim Crow doesn't exist or even if it did was much milder than OTL

2. Depends on the issue honestly, like on the education they do try to implement solutions to fix the problem but Id say they are the wrong solution. For example, almost all the focus is put on lack of funding but not enough focus is put into why there is a lack of funding(pension crises), and not enough into implementing a rigorous curriculum for students. It is similar in housing as policies such as rent control are put into place when one of the biggest problems is the Land Use laws that heavily restrict housing supply here.

On the other hand on issues such as crime, the issue was completely ignored by Democrats here the past year which caused crime to skyrocket. So I would say it is a mix of both

3. Outside of politics, I would say I have an old-school mindset on family and community. I believe the nuclear family is important and will try to my best to maintain that when I start a family of my own. I also deplore the idea of nursing homes (unless they are medically necessary) and will try my best to take care of my parents after they retire including offering them to live with me as well.

In terms of entertainment, I also consider myself "old school" in the type of Basketball style I liked the most, love 80s and 90s movies the most and love 80s music the most.

4. I try to use a mix of sources, from traditional media sources like CNN, NBC, PBS to online podcasts to local tv news. To be honest I also do get some of my news from Atlas/Discord

Old School is against amnesty and Romney hired an illegal alien to mow his lawn company, I know he explained it but still and Bush W tried to put Linda Chavez as Secretary of Labor and she hired an illegal immigrant, you don't hear any D doing that

Had Teddy Kennedy been Prez and sold weapons both to Iran and Iraq during their war which Saddam used to gas the Kurds it would be a totally different story with liking Teddy Kennedy instead of Reagan

Romney is okay but the only R that has done good is John McCain, Romney right now received the Kennedy award for ACA in MA but he is obstructing Voting Rights which is VR, he is doing a disservice to that Kennedy award he received

Teddy Kennedy would be appalled that Romney of all people is obstructing Voting Rights after Bobby, John Kennedy and LBJ worked so hard and got killed by right militia groups helping Civil Rights

What would be your ideal "left" and "right" wing parties be if you could make them?

Generally, I would like to see a party system where each party candidate fits the Overton window of their state rather than the nation as a whole. I believe this would help significantly depolarize the nation and is something I would like to see. Though my ideal Democratic and Republican Nominees stances on the issues would be this.

Policy towards China : both parties would compete on which side would further escalate the trade war with China and implement a foreign policy that would try to counter China's influence in the Pacific, and in the developing world

Climate Change: Both parties agree investing in Nuclear is the Way to go

Social Issues where they agree: Both oppose defunding the police, against teaching CRT in schools, and both are against cancel culture.

Big Tech: Both parties agree we need to update anti trust laws to deal

Taxes and Regulations: a Reaganite Republican Party vs a Clintonite Democratic Party

Healthcare: Republicans are in favor of a Swiss model when it comes to Healthcare while Democrats are in favor of a Germans Model

Energy: Other than both parties supporting nuclear energy I would say Republicans would be in favor in favor of natural gas as well. Democrats on the other hand would be in favor of green infrastructure, and a cap and trade system. Both parties would be opposed to polices such as the Green New Deal though

Trade: Republicans are in favor of free trade agreements with Latin America, the TPP and other nations while Democrats would be opposed.

Housing: Republicans are in favor of Texas style zoning laws to solve the issue, while Democrats are in favor of more of a New York style public housing. They both are opposed to rent control though

Immigration: Both parties work together on this issue with Republicans red lines being strict borders security, employer verification and no pathway to citizenship for people who came here as adults. Democrats redlines being making DACA permanent

Foreign Policy: Republicans are more in favor of increasing the unilateral power of the US while Democrats are more in favor of expanding the scope of global instituions.

Rebuilding the Family: Republicans are in favor of policies such as the child tax credit while Democrats are in favor of policies such as the ones they advocate in the BBB.

Now keep in mind id be a solid Republican here and disagree a lot with the Democrats on their policies but wanted to make this more realisitc
