Help in Primary.
Hurt in GE.

Ugh, this is a terrible policy and him and Buttigieg are completely ruining their Moderate-Hero reputations. Out of the current field I am fine with Hickenlooper, Delaney, Gabbard, and Biden

There were bills introduced in both chambers last Congress to do this.

Beto was not a co-sponsor.
Co-sponsors include Gabbard, and 5 of the 6 sitting Senators running for President.

Marijuana legalization has greater than 60% approval nationally. If a Democrat doesn't run on it, they've shown themselves to be sufficiently stupid that I would doubt their ability to govern.

Cannabis legalization even has majority support among Republicans. Why would this position hurt a candidate in the general election?

Isn't Republican John Boehner the biggest Legalization champ in the country. Don't see it really hurting. Probably wont really help either.  Most ppl recognize the need uniform laws via federal legislation since so many states are already legalizing.   But I think healthcare, etc type issues will be what ppl actually vote on (and actually in a crowded primary the majority of ppl will end up voting for who they simply like the most... not on issues).

Beto was talking about reforming marijuana laws and ending the drug war before he was elected. He even wrote a book about it before running for Congress. But I guess since he poses a minor threat to Bernie, he's evil and is just lying.

Hickenlooper is against National Legalization

And has generally been opposed to Marijuana legalization, period.

I think you should take these polls that say majority% of Americans support marijuana legalization with a grain of salt. I, personally, am not against marijuana and would be interested to see what this country would look like if it was legalized. But that wouldn't stop me from voting for an anti-marijuana candidate because I really don't care about this issue. I don't think marijuana legalization is a priority for most Americans.

Anyone who drinks alcohol, a far more potent and dangerous substance, but opposes legalized marijuana is a hypocrite that deserves to be laughed at and mocked.

One substance is apart of our cultural norm and the other isn’t; but marijuana is a largely harmless drug with many, many medical applications (including getting people off far more dangerous drugs like opioids, antidepressants, etc).

It should help--I don't think there are many people who oppose it that still vote Dem, and I'm sure that for those that do, this wouldn't be a deal breaker. But it could be a final push among people who may be still deciding among a few candidates.

Now don't get me wrong; I'm not a Reefer Madness guy.  But there are many users of alcohol who do not wish to be drunk, whereas people who use marijuana wish to experience the chemical high, and that is something different than someone who drinks 1-2 glasses of wine.

That's true. I think we can all agree, however "harmless" marijuana may be, anyone who uses it and drives should be punished.

Literally every person I know who drinks says they do it because it relaxes them, which is basically the same reason as most pot smokers. There's still some desired mental affect with drinking even if it's not being completely smashed.

This is a perfect example of what happens when you live inside the boomer bubble and your boomer logic has never been questioned. I hear this BS from my older relatives all the time.  Guess what?  If you are drinking two glasses of wine you’re going to have a good buzz going.  What is another word for that?  Its called getting high*.  And really, two glasses of wine is bordering on drunk.  I certainly feel a stronger “chemical high” after two glasses of wine than I do after smoking a bowl.  So not only are the people who make this argument hypocrites, they’re delusional as well.

*There didn’t used to be such a distinction between drinking and getting high in popular culture.  If you listen to old popular recordings from the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s singers refer to drinking alcohol as “getting high” frequently.  It wasn’t until later when less socially acceptable drugs began permeating popular culture that a distinction arose between drinking and getting high.
