If you read the article, he clearly does. What he's saying is more nuanced than either the Catholic Twitter set or avowed anti-Catholics are acting like it is.

I suppose there is a difference in that you can be supportive of a particular priest or Catholic congregation without approving of the organisation as a whole. I have nothing against the charitable and honest priest of the school I attended, organised religion on the other hand...

     Davidson's take is actually remarkably mature and a breath of fresh air compared to the recent trend of memory holing the career of any talented person who did something despicable. With that said, it only deals with religion in the most tangential sense, and realistically he probably brought up the Catholic Church as a stunt to get people talking about this.
