I was hoping Gen Z would provide a backlash against tribalism and spite oriented politics but they seem to have bought into it at an even greater level (both young people on the left and whatever small number are on the right).

Unfortunately, politics shall always inevitably become tribal. Human nature seems to be inherently tribal, and you can't really whip those instincts out of us.
Politics, in the grand scheme of things, is a game of life or death.The tough, the ruthless, and the cunning survive and keep their ideology alive for future generations. If you aren't willing to "fight," you might as well go ahead and close up shop.

I love Gen Z, they are very spiritually aware. They are the ones who are going to help in ousting the blight that is in the White House now. They may make us uncomfortable, but change is just that way. And boy do we as a country need change.
