Proud to see this reach the floor. This bill will reduce our deficit, help society think critically about how much gas they use, and end the days of the gas tax being a regressive tax. I urge all members to support.

It is completely unsurprising that former Southern Delegate and Deputy Speaker of the Southern Chamber, Wulfric, is the sponsor of this unworkable piece of legislation.

Fhtagn and RC are right here tbh.

First off, someone is literally paying twice as much money for being at 20.01% percentile than at the 19.99% percentile. This is different from income taxes, since the next tax bracket only kicks in for every dollar you exceed that threshold.

This in turn raises a broader point and that it is, from a policy prospective, very hard to make sin taxes progressive. Just raise income and capital gain tax rates on top earners if you want more progressive taxation. This sort of bill may sound like a decent idea in theory but isn't exactly workable.

If only someone had said something in Lincoln before they passed a carbon copy of this short-sighted and unworkable legislation. Hopefully Lincoln Councillors may look at this debate and consider repealing their unworkable "progressive" Gas Tax.

We are talking about a legislature with S019 as the Chancellor.

Wait they did?

If this happened in a region where I was governor and I saw this as part of the budget, I'd go absolutely ballistic.

Like seriously if someone is at the 19.99% they will literally pay so much less in gas than if they were at 20.00%. The sponsor probably thinks that's how income taxes work as well lol.

Here's the bill. And they didn't just pass it into law. They even sent it to referendum. Where it passed. Maybe you should get onto the Lincoln Council and get a debate about repealing it started.
