Frankly, at this point, I'd rather go with option 1. I'd feel more comfortable voting for Biden if he outright wins a majority of delegates. At the very least, the party will be unified enough to pivot to the general without absolute chaos at the convention.

Let's say this "reasonably progressive" running mate is Tammy Baldwin.

Option 1. Warren has no claim to the nomination.

FWIW I still think Warren would make a better prez than Sanders and Biden. But a majority of delegates > contested convention.

Warren would be a poor nominee. I think that she is much weaker than both Sanders and Biden.

majority of delegates > contested convention. And I back Biden if he wins a majority, esp. with a reasonably progressive VP like Baldwin.

If ANY candidate gets over 50% of the delegates before the second round superdelegate nonsense, they should be the nominee PERIOD. Sandernistas shouldn't and probably won't argue that.

I'm a Warren supporter myself, and my answer here depends on what exactly the delegate split is in the no-majority situation.  Warren is a much more reasonable nominee if she has 30% of the delegates and Bernie/Biden each have 35% than if she has 10% and Bernie/Biden each have 45%.

I'd prefer Biden receive the majority of delegates.

Either Biden or Bernie should be the nominee.

Except I doubt Biden picks a progressive VP.

Even if I actually had a metaphorical horse in this race, I couldn't possibly vote in this one because both lead to four more years of Trump. I suppose Biden getting hammered in the GE would be marginally better for the left in the long-run, but either scenario would be a horror show.

Option 2 is just going to leave everyone unhappy and ensures a loss in the general even if Warren's political instincts were better. At least if Biden wins a majority he'll shown to have the support of the party. So Option 1.

The first option. For all his faults, Uncle Joe has proven himself more likable on a personal level than Warren has (even though I think she'd make a better President) and that counts more than you think (just ask Presidents Dukakis, Kerry,  Romney, and H. Clinton). Plus, a contested convention guarantees a Trump Victory.

We can't win with a contested convention. Option 1.
