Forget Opebo, this pisses me off. I can't believe people's tax dollars were wasted on this. Yes I find Max's stuff generally repulsive but no one's rights were actually violated when he made and distributed it. This just shows that 'Obscenity Laws' for the bad joke they are.

... I can't believe people's tax dollars were wasted on this.

Actually what worries me, even assuming this travesty will be overturned upon appeal, is that Max's money and his precious time are being wasted on this.  I couldn't care less about 'tax dollars', which would just be used to slaughter foreigners if not on this, but the idea that Max is being distracted from his art is what bothers me.

They really should implement a policy that if a defendant wins against government prosecution, the government should have to pay him for his legal defense fees and his own time/expenses.   That might discourage all these senseless prosecutions.

That's actually a good idea. Pity it'll never pass as long as the democrats keep trying to be republicans socially and as long as the republicans keep catering to christian fundamentalists.

What I find really interesting is that Max Hardcore is actually his birth name.

Paul Little was his birth name.  It says it in the first sentence of the article.

Ah but remember opebo, the tax dollars being used to persecute Max could be used to help establish a generous welfare state.

Or to gentrify and suburbanize our inner cities!  Oh the possibilities are endless!

Good point, and one that is always with us as we make budgetary decisions.  However, you may have noticed that I am of the mind that if we taxed the rich properly the funding would flow in such amounts that there would be room for all sorts of spending, waste, corruption, etc.  I've never felt that scarcity need be a problem, given the amounts that are currently being directed to the owning class.

As for this type of expenditure, the problem is that it is blatantly unconstitutional religious fascism, not that it costs money.

This is bogus. Max Hardcore is an evil man (I'm sure he'd admit that himself) but he didn't do anything illegal.

Perhaps this is just celebrity-worship on my part, but I'd like to believe that a man like Max Hardcore would not believe in such supersticious concepts as 'evil'.
