I've always had this silly dream of becoming a Mason.  It's always appealed to me, and I don't really know why.  People keep telling me, "Nobody joins fraternal organizations anymore."  Do you guys think that it's worth doing?

As someone who has been nodding a head while reading this post... I agree.

It is probably not particularly interesting on the inside though.

My only familiarity with Freemasonry is through Tolstoy. Therefore, FF.

Do you have some sort of basis for that statement that's actually based on logic and facts?

Q: What do the Catholic Church and Saddam Hussein have in common?
A: Freemasonry is the only thing they were both right on.

"In 1938 voters in Jackson, Michigan, prodded by the chamber of commerce, instituted a council-manager charter. The new mayor and councilors were members of the chamber of commerce and of Protestant reform groups. The new officials celebrated with a reception in the Masonic hall and, once in power, dismissed most of the Roman Catholic city employees"

Only more reason to still believe that they hate Catholics. Unless things have changed in seventy years...

Read through the first five paragraphs and skimmed through the rest. Other than the somewhat grotesque oaths to maintain secrecy, I don't see anything all that objectionable in that article, and that one thing isn't enough for me to make a judgement call - do you have any proof that they actually carry out these sentences? If that was the case, I could understand, but right now I don't see what your problem is.

I got a lot of information on DU awhile ago about the evils of the Masons and their conspiracies. Also I once met someone at a party who lived across from a Masonic lodge and she said it was creepy.

"I got a lot of information on DU about conspiracies" is not credible, but if that's good enough for you I've got information that Obama is conspiring with Osama to destroy the nation!

I want credible evidence, and so should you.

Guys, guys, guys! Remember when he defended the half truths he was spewing about Catholicism by saying it's what his aunt told him? A never ending goldmine!

It doesn't matter how many it is, it's anecdotal evidence, and anecdotal evidence is never ever valid.

EDIT: I could have included more examples, of course, but this one really said it all so unambigiously I didn't feel motivated. Anyone who wants to can search for posts by BRTD on anecdotal evidence... Tongue
