I guess I support Chafee at this point. I'd bet the Democratic legislature would hold up his proposed sales tax increases, which is one of my only problems with him.

I wouldn't be terribly surprised if Chafee managed to get his tax increases through.

It's funny that Robitallie launched the harshest attack on him for it. I'll have to try to watch some of that debate eventually.

So Frank Caprio is a teabagger.  Good to know.

Funny to see the Democrats on here essentially admit that they don't actually care about real issues or their party or anything, just worshiping at the personality cult of Barack Obama. How dare anyone say anything even slightly less-than-laudatory about the Obamessiah?!

That's right - here on the left, we are unconditionally noncritical of President Obama.  Real issues?  I'm not sure I even accept the premise that such a category of political debate exists!  Your analysis is appreciated.

This is what happens when politicians have temper tantrums. Caprio was a wanker to begin with and this doesn't help matters.

I'm sorry, if you're the head of the Democratic Party, you support the Democratic nominee.  I don't give a sh**t if Chafee would be better than Caprio.  The Party comes first.

Well, Obama doesn't want to send the wrong message to future members of "Republicans for Obama Reelection" is the best I can discern, and a lot of the less partisan forces like the teachers unions are already behind Chafee

Don't forget Obama was coming to Rhode Island to hold an event in a well known Chafee supporter's house... it was a pretty big snub 8 days before the election, but I doubt Caprio through a "tantrum" as evidenced by his refusal to back down from his remarks

I heard an excerpt from that debate (or, I'm pretty sure it was that debate) on the radio the other day, where Caprio defended his remarks. "I told him to shove it, and I'll continue to tell him to shove it and stand up for the people of Rhode Island" or something to that effect. I couldn't find the individual clip anywhere online, though.

Lunar, of course I understand what you're saying.  I'm just saying that it's disgraceful for the Head of the Party to undermine his party.  If Obama as a private citizen were to support Murkowski or Chafee or Crist or whatever, fine, but as the country's top Democrat, he has an obligation to his party's candidates.

Or at the very least keep his mouth shut. A better example of why Obama is having the difficulties that he is would be hard to find.

Caprio is certainly conservative enough to be the Republican nominee.

Any chance this was a poorly calculated stunt to eat into Robitaille's base?

Possibly, but I doubt it. No politician would be stupid enough to do that in left-wing Rhode Island.

At least I hope not.

It hardly matters now, Chafee wil be the next governor, like it or not.

Yeah, that'll really do wonders for the misconception that Obama's a communist/fascist. Roll Eyes Why should Obama be devoid of personal preference and thought? Partisan hackery is certainly not a quality I want in a President.

It's not Obama as a person, it's Obama as the head of his Party.  When you take that position, you lose the right to have a publicly known personal opinion.  He is the face of the Democratic Party, insulting a Democratic candidate like this is incredibly bad form.

Was Bush Sr. wrong to support Bennett Johnston when David Duke suddenly become a Republican nominee for Senate in Louisiana?

Typical discussion from Libertas: "um, you love war/um, you hate freedom/um, you worship Obama/um, um, um".

Yup, we are in agreement, never meant to indicate otherwise!  Obama's snub was magnified by his decision to campaign in Rhode Island with Chafee supporters so close to election day too...
