I found a political test on the net. I don't know how many of you may have found this already, so forgive me if you already knew of this. But this test determines where you are on the political spectrum. Whether you're a conservative authoritarian, a liberal authoritarian, a conservative libertarian, or a liberal libertarian. I would very much like you all to take this test here at http://www.politicalcompass.org

After you take the test, I would appreciate it if you post you results here at this topic. Just to let you all know, I turned out to be -2.88 Liberal, and -0.51 Libertarian. Which would be fairly moderate, I suppose.

I did the test a couple of months ago.

Economic Left/Right: -0.62
Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.23

On the graph, it looks like I'm extremely centrist.

I'm refusing to take any test that descibes the BNP as "left wing".

Well I dont know much about the BNP but the site brings up a good point. There is no clear worldwide definition of "left & Right". I have come across supposedly conservative or rightist parties across the world which are utterly repugnant to me.

That is mostly because of racist views but also inexplicably because they are way to the left on economic and fiscal policy.

Again I dont know about the BNP but I wont say its not possible.

Demrep, I did take most of the test though I had to leave it midway because of a net connection problem. I'm not going back to take it again because I very much doubt that it would give an accurate reflection of our political views. It forces people to choose between widely extremist choices which may both be repugnant to the test-taker. I dont know what my score would have been but I was shifting between what I'm sure were the "conservative" and "liberal" choices every other question.

I had seen a couple of decent tests in the last year (not much btter tho) If I find them again will let you know.

My score: Economic Left/Right: -9.12
                Libertarian/Authoritarian: -9.85
I suppose this confirms I'm an extremist. I could only be 0.88 more liberal on economic issues on a scale of 10.00. I could only be 0.15 more liberal on personal and social issues on a scale of 10.00. This confirms my view that I'm more liberal on social than economic issues.

I can see how some of the questions are loaded (for example by dichotomizing "humanity" and "trans-national corporations"), however the general idea is very good, I wish there was another similiar test like that.

I did take the test before and I got left-libertarian.

Left and Right should ONLY be used relatively.

Examples:

Tony Blair is on the centre-right of the Labour Party but is on the centre-left nationally.

Ken Clark is on the far-left of the Tory Party but is in the centre nationally.

Hi ppl, I found one of the quizzes which I had done previously and while far from perfect; it didnt give bad results- better than the quiz mentioned on this thread anyway.

I'd recommend it just for a laugh- it compares you to contemporary political figures. Cheesy

I got a score of nine, which doesn't make me an extremist but puts me safely into the liberal category.

I got a 0, meaning I'm considerably more liberal than either of you, and as liberal as allowed on the scale.

As I thought, migrendel is falling off of the left edge.  Compared to him, I'm a raging right-winger......

I took this test just for fun...and I came up with an 18...which would pretty much still put me where I was in the other test.  Liberal, but fairly moderate....putting me in between Colin Powell and Bill Clinton.

economic 2.38
libertarian 0.62

A little right of center on the economic scale, and just about centrist on the libertarian-authoritarian scale.

That's about where I expected to be, although I thought the wording of the questions was a little biased.

Ryan --

I took the test.  I got a 36 out of 40, putting me near Bob Dole, and just short of Ronald Reagan, in degree of conservatism.

The wording of the questions was different, and encouraged a more right-wing response than the other test.
