This message is addressed to those Atlas Forum members who are still registered as members of the Democratic Party.  I believe this includes the following:

Acsenray
Akno21
Carey
Defarge
EmergingDMajority
Gore for President
Fritz
HockeyDude
Kevinstat
kfseattle
Nclib
Sheilak5
Smash255
Texasgurl
TomatoSoup
Umengus

Forgive me if I accidentally included or excluded anyone.

Umengus and I have been in contact via e-mail, discussing the resurgence and reorganization of the Democratic Party.  We feel that the Democratic Party, as it once existed and flourished here, represents our views better than the Independence Party or the United Left Party.  Speaking for myself, I do not subscribe to the “centrist economic” position of the AFIP, and I am a bit more moderate than the UL.

It is time for the Democratic Party to make a comeback!  If you are interested in taking part, please respond to this thread.

What needs to be done:

Creating and maintaining websites is not exactly my area of expertise.  We need a website for the party.

We need to elect a party chairman, and agree upon a platform for our party.

As the August midterm elections approach, we as a party should make endorsements.

The Democratic Party is BACK!

AFIP, Democratic, Manifest Destiny, and UL aren't very large at the moment. According to the June Census, 60% of the  Population are UAC or Republican.

My opinion: Why to prefer democratic party rather than (insipid) copies.

Firstly, I'm very pleased to observe the resurgence of a party who brought so much.

Secondly, some (AFIP) people expressed their dissatisfaction because of the bipolarisation which our party would cause. I wish to say to them that bipolarisation is not toughening and I live personally in a country where there is not bipolarisation and in this country, to dream is impossible (and see his dreams achieving imself) because politicians must make coalitions and must found agreement (without savour) to govern.
Moreover, the bipolarisation  offers a clear choice and without ambiguity

Thirdly, the democratic party is not a insipid party, without ideas and whitout enthousiasm. We are not a party which seeks  pathologically to be at the center to attract some progressist voters of the UAC party.

Fourthly, our party refuses any sectarism and is opened to people who have sometimes differents opinions or even antagonists but which nevertheless are inspired by the heritage (of a part of it) left by Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Robert Francis Kennedy and more loan of us Howard Dean and John Edwards. Consequently, I claim to affirm that we are not a "melting-pot UAC" party.

Fifthly, the force of our party always was to combine the interests of the working class with thoses of the middle class. I don't know if we effectively reached that point but force is to note that our recent failure must encourage us to reconsider our program (and manner of filling it).

Last but not least, I think that we have in the democratic party people who are the most effective to combin ideas and (sometimes necessary) pragmatism.

Consequently, I support and encourage the resurgence of the democratic party and I ask you to join the democratic party.

NOTE FROM MODERATOR!

On Fritz request I have decided to split this topic. Those of you who want to discuss the resurgence of the Democratic party from a critical view-point can do so in the thread entiteled "discussion"...etc.

Those of you who want to participate in this party-building may post here.

Thank you. Smiley

Okay, so far we have had four people, including myself, come forward and say they would like to participate in rebuilding the party.  I think that makes us a viable party here.   Cheesy

Anyone else who wants to join in, feel free!

I do need some help with the website, I am not sure what to do with the site outline that King has posted to make it usable.

On the other hand, if we are only going to have four members participating, perhaps we don't need a seperate website.

I nominate myself as chairman of this party, but I am very open to other nominations.

Let's keep this ball rolling!!!

If Akno21 and Umengus will also support my being the chairman, or offer nominations of their own, we will then move on to matters of party policy and platform.

if the party leader can register in the forums so I can make a forum for us to privately discuss the site that would be great.

Okay, I've let this slide for a little while, but I'm back on it!

King has set up a website for us at http://afdems.serverbob.org/forum/.  This is also in my signature.  Would all Democrats please log into the site and leave a message just saying you've been there.  We should make endorsements as a party for the midterm elections, and I would like us to discuss all that on that site.

Let's show this forum that we are a living, breathing party!!!!
