Do you the people of the Midwest want a senator that has the courage to compromise when necessary.
or do you want a senator that votes on stricktly party lines no matter what the right thing to do is?
that is when the senator even bothers to show up to vote before the voting is over.
if you look at my opponents voting record you will see that a vote for him is no more than a vote for the UAC.
how many times a week does my opponent post on the forum?
they try to say that being an active senator doesn't matter, but i think the people of my district deserve a senator who takes an active interest in the things that matter to the midwest.
so far my opponents partisans have called me "immoral"
and a "dangerous human being"
if caring about the future of the midwest makes me immoral and dangerous then i guess i'm guilty.

-Most of the people you're campaigning for are from the Mideast region.

-No, I want a senator who will stands up for he/she believes in, not what he/she thinks is more politically viable.

-You have had a vote that was after the voting is over.

-He's in the AFIP, not the UAC.

you don't get sarcasm do you?
the AFIP is no more than an offshoot of the UAC you were in the UAC at one point i think.
and yes he has voted every single time with the UAC.
so there is my point.
and the art of compromise is key to being a good representative.
not simply being a rubber stamp for the party apparatchik.

And a vote for Texasgurl is no more than a vote for a socialist. Props to Verin for clarifying Dan's membership.

the AFIP is no more than an offshoot of the UAC you were in the UAC at one point i think.

So (about my former membership in the UAC)?  Is it an offshoot of the Progressive Party, too? Tongue

Let's compare and contrast (some of our planks are temporary, as are some of theirs, I believe).

Abortion
UAC: We support the right for a woman to have an abortion in the first trimester of a pregnancy ONLY, or if the pregnancy was caused by rape or incest.
AFIP: Support Roe vs. Wade ruling. Support abortions up to 5 months after the pregnancy; after that, only in cases of rape, or incest, or if the woman's or fetus's health is in danger.

Immigration
UAC: Foreign workers are an essential part of our economy, and we support their efforts to improve their lives by entering this country and finding good honest work. We encourage tougher screening of people entering this country in order to provide security to all Americans. However, this should not hinder the efforts of peaceful people to enter this country.
AFIP: The AFIP supports increasing skilled immigration, and filling our refugee quota. We believe that only skilled migrants and refugees will help our country, and therefore do not support illegal immigration. We believe that our nation is great because of the migrants, and refugees, that came here. 'Give us your poor, you're huddled masses...'

Death Penalty
UAC: The UAC only supports the death penalty in extreme cases that can be proven beyond ZERO doubt..
AFIP: Opposed the death penalty; support commuting death sentences to life without parole.

Health Care
UAC: The UAC supports a focus on health care, not disease care. UAC supports medical savings accounts for Medicare and Medicaid subscribers, which will provide financial rewards for good health.

In addition, the UAC supports vouchers enabling Medicare and Medicaid subscribers to choose any insurance plan or health care provider they desire, thereby promoting competitive costs and quality of care among medical providers.
AFIP: Work towards creation of a universal, single-payer health care system. Oppose privatization of Social Security and Medicare funds.

Education
UAC: Reform of NCLB, opposition to lifetime job security for teachers. UAC supports increasing the experimentation of allowing private corporations to handle failing school districts (with a watchful public eye over them), similar as to the policies in the city of Philadelphia right now, which has produced positive results.
AFIP: The AFIP supports extensive funding to underperfoming schools, and a nation-wide re-working of education spending policies. We support increasing teachers' pay and believe that education is one of the most important issues facing our nation.

Need I provide more?

Yeah... I'm not too sure if a party can vote.  And if he has voted EVERY SINGLE TIME with ALL of the UAC senators... maybe he just agrees with the positions on those issues?

WHY DO YOU KEEP INSISTING HE'S VOTING FOR WHAT HE VOTES FOR BECAUSE ANYONE TELLS HIM TO OR HOW OTHER PEOPLE VOTE?  MAYBE HE VOTES THE WAY HE DOES BECAUSE HE WANTS TO!  MAYBE HE VOTES THE WAY HE DOES BECAUSE HE AGREES WITH WHAT HE'S VOTING FOR, UNLIKE WHAT YOU KEEP SAYING YOU'RE GOING TO DO!

*whew*

Sorry about that rant...

First you say he votes with the United Atlas Centrist party line.  Now you say he's not a centrist.

Please make up your mind Tongue

Oh, and I want to clarify... I am not an official demrepdan representitive, and I'm not working with the demrepdan campaign (well, on this, at least... you'll see what I mean in a bit Smiley).

I'm honored to endorse my friend Texasgurl for the Senate. In the process I hope to clear up some inaccuracies, canards, fibs, and out and out propaganda that have dogged her campaign.

Her endorsement by the Republican party is a non-issue. For all of you self-righteous types, I dare you to say you wouldn't if it helped you gain electoral viability. Texasgurl made a noble effort to expand her base and forge partnerships with the other side. For that, she is to be commended. I can also say the substance of her views are unchanged, and she remains just as committed to the rights and well-being of all people. I have the utmost confidence in her ability to be a progressive leader.

I also would like to make a comment about those who call her a dangerous woman. If a dangerous woman is anyone who is willing to call a spade a spade, and wrong thinking and moral haughtiness what it is, then that's Texasgurl. And if that's a dangerous woman, we need more of them in the Senate.

I urge you all to vote for her, for all she has done for us in the past, and what she shall continue to do for us in the future.

If a vote for Texasgurl is no more than a vote for a socialist, why would myself and the rest of the republican party endorse her?  The fact is, Texasgurl is a principled legislator who votes her conscience, not any party line.

at least i have the guts to be who i am and not pretend to be some kind of "centrist"

I resent that. I'm not PRETENDING to be a centrist. I admit again and again that I am a moderate-liberal. However, I am MUCH more of a centrist than you are.....not even you can deny that.

And I have long since denounced the UAC....several of their party members made me feel unwanted.....so to hell with them.

And attacking how I am supposedly "inactive" here at the forum....is getting a LITTLE old. You may have had a good case a month ago....but I've been posting damn near every day. What more do you want?

And as far as me not voting on time......I voted after the bill was passed only ONCE....and it was just for symbolic reasons......whilst you on the other hand....have a RECORD as Senator.....have done it as well. So don't be a hypocrite.

Find some better things to attack me on.....instead of the same old tired rhetoric we hear from the right-wing. Which has supported you...and you are in CAHOOTS with them in order to win this election.

I don't vote on party lines...I vote what is right.....nor do I bow down to any party or group in order to get elected (i.e. the Republicans)

BUT I SAY AGAIN!..... I AM NOT A MEMBER OF THEIR PARTY!

By the way, Texasgurl.....I made a speech....in Iowa a few days ago....with a comment direct to you...that we could debate wherever.....and whenever you want....and however many times you want.......you never took me up on the offer.

I regret to inform you now.....that I may be leaving from Wednesday to Friday (watch her and others attack me for doing THAT....just watch).....so....our time to debate is growing small.....VERY small....in fact....there may not be one.....

But just remember.....that it was I who challenged you.....and you never took the offer.....theres something your supporters can think about......

It's unfortunate you didn't....

I would, at this time, like to issue at statement directly to my opponent, Former Senator Texasgurl: I am ready for debate. I am more than willing to debate on the issues, even more than once. Have your campaign staff get in touch with me, and you can set up a time and place, and we can debate anywhere, anytime.

There ya go! Barack Obama for Senate!

PS.....I didn't start any attacks. I have NEVER attacked anyone during any campaign my whole life. I have always kept things postive......and stated the facts....and the truth.

I do admit that some of my supporters may go negative....but I do not support their actions. These negative attacks came directly from Texasgurl and I merely responded and defended myself......and if people consider that to be negativity......so be it.
