Anyone know?

Because an $800 million campaign or something would do a lot of good. At least, until this campaign finance reform crap.

Why doesn't he donate some cash? Then Badnarik could run a serious campaign.

For one, he can't donate more than $2000 to a political candidate - nobody can. Stupid FEC and their laws, telling people they can't spend their money as they like...

True, but Badnarik isn't rich... Almost makes me wish we picked Russo.

Besides it being illegal to donate more than $2000 to a single candidate, Perot wouldn't do this because Perot is not a libertarian.  He would be more likely to root for Nader since at least Nader has the Reform Party endorsement.

Trump lost the 2000 Reform nomination to Buchanan.

The powerful want to protect themselves from big money, I guess. But I thought this was only true for federal candidates?

You could start with gubernatorial elections...

This thread reminds me that $$$$ not only makes people evil, but democratic processes as well.

I'd like to see how an election would go without any campaign finance. Then maybe those with actual ideas could win.

I'm not saying there should be a ban on campaign finance. I'm just saying, wouldn't it be interesting to see how an election goes minus the money?

Certainly sounds good to me, especially because our current president was elected because he was a rich heir to the throne.

He was elected because 50 million people voted for him.

The way to fight money is with bigger money. That's why campaign finance restrictions are a threat to the minority's free speech.

Dana Carvey as ROSS PEROT:

PEROT: Now, the LA riots cost exactly 312 million dollars. So, I've got the solution. (He Pulls out a check) Yup, here it is. A check for exactly 312 million dollars. That's right, I'm taking care of everything. And don't worry about it, I got three billion more sitting back at home. But, this check is a one time offer. You burn down a building tomorrow, that's your problem.

I think Trump is actually a registered Republican, but is pretty liberal and could just as easily be a Democrat (he's a Bloomberg Republican, I guess).  He considered running for the Reform Party nomination in 2000, but didn't pull the trigger.

Trump is a registered Repub, but like Arnold, he's pretty liberal. He could easily be a Lieberman Democrat or a Guiliani Republican.
