But with two or three member districts if I remember right, so it's not an absolute catastrophe...

Usually. But not in Birmingham... [shudders]

Going into fantasy mode:
I'm going to make the Constitutionalist Party an affiliate of the Democratic Party in West Virginia (kinda like the Co-op party in the U.K and used to be common in the U.S when there were powerful third parties). That way I (er... I mean the Citizens of West Virginia) can have my (er... their) cake and eat it.

Senator Al Realpolitik
Chair: UMW
Chair: AFWVDP
Now wait a second...The WV Constitutionalists as well as the WV Democrats will have to decide on that...
So you'll have to join us for a minute (you can do that by osting in the conststitutional party thread), affiliate yourself with yourelf and then you can go back to being a Democrat...
UMW is United Mine Workers?

Lewis ,you made our point

i strongly disagree with whoever said 'poor whites are overwhelmingly democratic'

why dont they vote?  because they dont believe the system works for them.  they dont like EITHER political party.

most poor folks believe that polticians represent their rich friends and corporations.

i make a low wage.  im sorry but i dont believe that teddy kennedy, jay rockefeller, john kerry, and that crowd are 'looking out for me'.

Most of 'em are Democrats but this is not the same as saying they agree with all the views of various leading Democrats.
My guess is they are unhappy with the Dems views on social issues and the won't vote "for the Party of Lincoln"...

As someone who is an actual southerner, I agree with my fellow actual southerner from a neighboring state that many poor rural whites tend to be fed up with both political parties and certainly aren't national Democrats.

I didn't actually deny that.
It's a failure of the DNC that people that used to be their hard core supporters have stopped voting for anyone at all.

When you choose Manhattan over Mayberry, that's what you get.

This is a bit off topic but... what is it with the DNC? Why is the organisation so abysmal?

Something worth a look: the CD map of MS for the 1980 election (on this site, but you need to be a member).
Compare it to the current map.

Could you give us a short overview? Don't export the actual maps of course, just describe the general idea?
