Trying to woo centrist voters, the only way, AT THE TIME, to push de Gaulle in a run-off.

Mendès-France has always said he won't be candidate under this Constitution: why should we vote for him in a primary ? He won't be candidate even if he wins this primary !

The guy was to good not to vote for him. I prefer to waste my vote than to choose anyone else.
