He trivializes her importance in the 2012 Presidential race; he wants some Palin supporters, especially those who suddenly found her political life too capricious and her family life inconsistent with a President of the United States. To inherit her support without having to adopt her more strident positions would give him a huge asset.

I don't know if this is really all that important.  I could have told you that Pawlenty would say something like this.  Anybody whose going to be running for president in a few years completely denies that they are even thinking about a run until they have 2 years to go.  You don't want to appear to be to anxious.  And I have to agree with pbrower 2a, he does want some of her supporters for the primaries, especially now that she probably won't run for pres in 2012.

We can all face facts and say that at this time, we know of 3 people who are probably going to seek the Republican nomination for pres in 2012, Romney, Pawlenty, and Santorum (bleh).
