Here are the conditions for this scenario...

It is Late October, 2012. The election is only a couple of weeks away. The 2010 elections turned out surprisingly well for the Democrats, with no senate seats lost and only 14 House seats lost.
Currently, President Obama has a great 60% approval rating.

Troops have left Iraq and Afghanistan, with the latter going somewhat out of control but the public not really caring. After an inflation and mortgage scare in 2011, the economy has rebounded quite nicely and the unemployment rate is down to a still high but manageable 7.5%. Obama's enacted policies such as the stimulus, health care and other things have been relatively well received.

Obama is leading in the polls 55-35, against the Republican nominee Sarah Palin. Her running mate is Tim Pawlenty, and Obama has kept Biden as his.

The Obama campaign is considered to be very well run, and the Palin campaign a trainwreck. Palin was demolished in all three debates by Obama, and Biden was considered to have beaten Pawlenty as well.

So the election is supposedly in the bag for Obama...until a young, 18 year old college student comes forward and claims she had a one night affair with the President when he was campaigning where she resides in Florida. Moreso, she claims to have DNA evidence (semen). The news shocks the country, and a few days later the semen is confirmed to in fact be from the President.

What is the result of the election?

Vice President Biden shortly takes the oath of office.  Michelle Obama ends up having the manslaughter charge against her finally dropped late in 2013 by prosecutors after two mistrials.

Seriously, Rain, one can understand why Bill fooled around, but Barack?!?  If one is going to make a scenario about marital infidelity in the Obama household, it is far more likely to involve a lonely Michelle getting involved with someone else because Barack is too busy being President and campaigning.

President Obama admits to his indiscretion, apologizes unreservedly for his unbecoming behavior, vowing it will never happen again, asks for First Lady Michelle Obama's forgiveness, which she gives, emphasizes to the voters his remarkably successful first term, and leaves his fate in the hands of the American people, who always make the right decision.

Voters believe the President, realizing he is only human, though condemning his behavior, and decide to re-elect him overwhelmingly, rather than putting someone else, Palin, so obviously unqualified, into the Presidency.

I wish.

Obama would probably lose in this situation.

No one really cared about Lewinski, and with such a huge lead and such a successful first term as Obama is given in this scenario, he'd definatley still win.

Now if the election was very very close, then an affair would be a lot more damaging, and would probably lead to his defeat.

The worst effect I see happening to Obama is him becoming the fodder for late night comedy jokes:

"What is President Obama's stance on protection? None, LOL!"

The only problem with this scenario is that it would never ever happen.

You never know.

In this case yes you do.

I'm sorry, I may disagree with Obama on several issues, but as far as his family life and personality goes, he's a great person.

People used to say the same thing about Gov. Mark "Argentina" Sanford.  Never say never.
