Benjamin Austin Roberts, Sr. was born on September 5, 1912. He always was a staunch progressive, and was a staunch new dealer. In 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served at many battles, including Normandy on June 6, 1944. He retired a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1954, he was brought to testify to HUAC, as he was being investigated as a possible Communist. He refused to comply with their orders to name names, as he didn't know any communists. Luckily, before he could be blacklisted, McCarthy's downfall happened. He died on June 7, 2001.

Benjamin Austin Roberts, Jr. was born July 5, 1948.  He was a gifted child, and in 1967, as a redshirt freshman at Stanford, became the QB on the football team. In 1968, they went 9-1-0, and won the Orange Bowl. They were undefeated in 1969 and 1970, and in both years, won the national championship. He was drafted in the first round by the Los Angeles Rams, and played for 5 years as a good, but not great quarterback, winning the 1974 Super Bowl. In 1975 he retired to run for congress.

CONGRESS
In 1977 Roberts was sworn in. He had mainly an uneventful 3 terms, but then he ran for Senate.
1982 Senate- Roberts 50.7.
1983:
Robert J. Dole proposed a bill to privatize Social Security.
Roberts, using the famous "tropic thunder method", spoke (and sang) for 24 hours before collapsing. The bill failed.
During this time, Roberts befriended Sen. Scott Westman and Sen. Jefferson Dent.
