Past French prez elections today: President Dominique STRAUSS-KAHN, 2002-2007

The parliamentary elections of 1997 gave a majority to the mainstream right, led by Nicolas Sarkozy.

President Cochet had dissolved the Assemblée Nationale because of constant infightings inside the "plural" left on European problems and on privatizations and reforms forced by European law.

Divisions inside the left and inside almost every party in the left led to a big defeat for them.
President Cochet more and more faded from the front political landscape and he eventually wasn't nominated by his party to seek re-election.
He only managed to shorten the presidential term to 5 years.

The clear pro-European positioning of the PS, under Strauss-Kahn's leadership, led to the dissidence of the left of the party, with Mélenchon.
The Greens fell again in internal fightings, with a Eurosceptic, Alain Lipietz, prevailing for the presidential candidacy.
Even the PCF has decided to support its orthodox Gremetz.

On the right, Sarkozy, incumbent PM with big powers, is the candidate of the mainstream and tries to make people think he's already in the second round.
But many small candidates from the right appear.

The UDF seems to be more and more independent and, taking advantage of constant debates on the European question, puts forward its own candidate. Marielle de Sarnez.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon (<-> Jean-Pierre Chevènement, former socialist, at the left of the PS, with anti-European statements and ability to hurt the socialist candidate)

Alain Lipietz (<-> Noël Mamère, candidate at the left of the Greens)

Pierre-François Grond (<-> Olivier Besancenot, new generation of the LCR)

Frédéric Nihous (<-> Jean Saint-Josse, leader of the CPNT at the time)

Maxime Gremetz (<-> Robert Hue, orthodox communist at the time)

Just note that, throughout all the elections, I will simply have picked all the major leaders of each party... So, it's not the lists which are awful but the reality

I had a hard time choosing about all of them. I almost put DSK, but he's not needing 10 votes since he'll undoubtedly make it, and I'm at heart a centrist blue-green like Gamerre and unlike Lepage I don't hang out with fake centrists. I wanted to put Nihous second, but the whole Libertas-to-UMP shtick was fail and I still like DSK. I had a hard time figuring out my last vote between Stalin, Novelli and Mélenchon. But since I'm similar in behaviour and character to Mélenchon, I chose him

For obvious reasons, and despite my Radicalism, I absolutely would not vote for Zuccarelli. And for reasons related to gerrymandering my department, his opportunism, his character, his godawful re-centralizing territorial 'reform' and his past presumed comments on Bretons, I would never vote for Sarko again.

Wow, Mélenchon even over Lipietz...!

Again, the mainstream right is ousted in the first round. A big defeat for the incumbent PM, who is defeated in the first round, as in real life ().

But, as DSK doesn't need my votes, I'd say:
