surprise!
NATION ASSIGNMENTS!
I've decided to do this now to encourage others to get in, with the hope that I'll do this again in a week or two.

U - Hash - Wales
U - Afleitch - Scotland
U - Devilman - Greece
U - Nik - Normandy
A - rubyug - Germany
A - Yelnoc - Occitania
U - PiT - Persia (Sure you are up for it? I recommend another nation)
U - Xahar - Hungary
U - Fydor - Denmark (If you want it)
A - Patukov - Troika

I've decided to force people to pick one of the top nations. Therefore, free nations are...

Poland, Egypt, Berbery, Naples, Castile, Portugal, Ireland

Heh, turns out that is the proper way to spell it. Just for that, your granted that nation straight way! Cheesy

U - Hash - Wales
U - Afleitch - Scotland
U - Devilman - Greece
U - Nik - Normandy
A - rubyug - Germany
A - Yelnoc - Occitania
U - PiT - Persia (Sure you are up for it? I recommend another nation)
U - Xahar - Hungary
U - Fydor - Denmark
A - Patukov - Troika
A - AaronH - Barbary

The nations that are "left" are as follows, please pick one of these:

Poland, Egypt, Naples, Castile, Portugal, Ireland

----------------

If the current nations fill up, or we get enough, I will open up ONE of the following Russian nations:

Kazan
Muscowy
Ukraine
The Khanate

as well as ONE of the following French nations:
Orleans
Limousin
Geneva
Bourgogne
Anjou

as well as ONE of the following Italian nations:
Milan
Venice
Tuscany
Rome, The Papal State (with pre-conditions attached)

as well as ONE of the following Eastern nations:
Iraq
Kurdistan
Turkey
Jerusalem, The Papal State (with pre-conditions attached)

With the idea being that you could become the dominant force in the area by beating up on the others in your 'nation'.

I'd rather fill the big guns first, especially because they have colonies as you will see in my next post.

I have a strong preference for oddball countries, so Persia is fine. I may not have a great shot at winning with Persia, but it should be an interesting experience. Grin

The colony map has been updated (a few places shifted around) hit reload to see it properly.

A list:

Newfoundland, Labrador, Part of Quebec - Finland
Quebec - Normandy
Prince Edward Island - The East*
Nova Scotia - Scotland
New Brunswick - Ireland
Maine - Greece (see note)
New Hampshire - Lorraine, province of Germany
Mass - Greece
Rhode Island - France*
Conn - Poland
NY - Denmark
Penn - Wales
NJ - Hungary
Del - Italy*
Maryland - Holland, province of Germany
Virginia - Occitania
NC - Castile
SC - Portugal
Georgia - Egypt
Florida - Barbary

Maine is becoming a beacon for Albanians

The East, France, and Italy. Each of these regions has a number of separate countries. Profits (or losses) from the colonies are shared amongst these nations (even when at war) Should the areas become united under one country (of its members) that country will take over that colony.

Demographics. Religion and Ethnic map. Grey areas have mixed ethnicity.

Notes on Ethnicity.

Ruling over areas with the same ethnicity as your government will result in more productivity in those areas. Therefore, you want your ethnicity to be in your nation.

There are many subgroups of each ethnicity. Slavic, for example, has Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, etc.

You can also spend efforts to convince people from one ethnic group that they are really part of another group. This is happening/has happened to a degree in Bohemia, where the German government has been able to convince a large number of Bohemian Slavs that they are, in fact, Bohemian Germans. This is dangerous since they can be easily 'converted back' and if this happens it will be nearly impossible to re-convert them again.

Occitanian is close enough to either French, Italian, or Spanish that it can claim to be part of one of these groups. This is a claim that the government can make at some point, but note that once it is made, you are stuck with it.

Like above, English is close enough to Celtic, Nordic, German, and French that an English nation (there are currently none) could claim to be part of one of these groups.

Albanian, also, is close enough to Greek, Italian, Hungarian, Turkish, and Persian.

For the latter two, this closeness, coupled with conversions, can be used for purposes of war. An example would be Turkey claiming all Albanians are really Turks, and using that as a cause for war with Greece. Weather or not the Albanians agree is another story.

Map Update!

In addition to Cities, now you also have Villages/Forts. They are like Cities but weaker. Many of them are resource centers (IE this is where your resources come from) and therefore they should be well defended. Since they are not "Cities" they are certain things they cannot do, but this also brings certain benefits. See more later.

Also, I changed the map again.
Switzerland is now a country
"South Germany" has been turned into the joint crown of Austria-Bavaria
Neither are playable at this time (If we get more players, we can add more)

Switzerland is the weakest federation yet, each canton is like a country onto itself
