I would like to confirm a few details, for the public record as much as anything else.

1. The LNF member approached by PiT was me. I suppose that's obvious, but it needed to be said.

2. The proposed deal included all that has been mentioned here, and something else - which was rejected instantly. Details of this will not be posted by me here as it would only make matters more inflamed.

3. The parts of the deal put to the LNF as a party were rejected in our own odd little way. I think that nearly all of the co-chairs spoke on the issue and a consensus was reached relatively quickly. I think that the way that party dealt with this issue demonstrated both its democratic credentials and its principles. Despite our reputation as a joke party, we took this seriously and came to a serious decision through a serious process.

I will happily answer questions about the contents of PM's with the exception noted in point two. About people's motives, I know nothing and care less.

A reminder of something:

Note that "the LNF" means all the LNF. No shady backroom group exists within the LNF - the chair who received it broadcast it to all the other chairs simultaneously. (Every member is a chair, of course. Smiley )

In fact almost all the discussion over this (I've no idea how much SewerSocialist posted before the post was deleted) was done in that way. And I repeat that we rejected the offer - the forbidden fruit was not consumed.

You said you thought the LNF should do it.

Not true. I don't think that I ever gave a positive write-up of proposal to my fellow co-chairs so I'm not quite sure where you get that idea from. Shortly after I logged on toda... yesterday now, I did, however, write this:

I don't like this - something seems wrong

And I had written this the previous night:

I presume that this is because they did the numbers and don't have enough at the moment.

You thought showing all LNF members the PM was the wrong thing to do.

Al did show all LNF members the PM.

Yes, and in one of the PMs posted, Al seemed to regret doing so.

My regret was that I didn't refuse the entire offer immediately (only part of it) and thus accidentally dangled the forbidden fruit in front of the rest of the LNF, not that I'd not kept the decision to a small inner party of some kind.

I'd say the predominant mood at the time of the reception of the message within the LNF was "Huh".

You mean it still isn't?

Indeed. We run candidates through the LNF as a means of participating in bourgeois elections without corrupting the Party.

But wait.

Trotskyite?!!

Re; not untouchable

...which is the beauty of STV. I remember winning fairly easily both times I ran in STV elections, but, no, you never feel safe until near the end of the last day. Might be slightly different now that we have powerful political machines, but I suppose if there are multiple candidates...
