There are several Senators senior to Reid that seem plausible to me. What about Leahy or Kerry?

They both Chair major Committees (Judiciary and Foreign Relations); they won't give up those jobs for the thankless task of Majority Leader.

Chuck Schumer would be the natural successor to Harry Reid, with Dick Durbin as Whip.

I'd think Durbin would be the natural successor, since he is currently the Whip.

I think you should change the thread title from "If" to "When".

Reid seems to have totally lost what political acumen he had.

I still think Reid will win. I don't want him to, but I get the sense that he will prevail in the end.
