Bush was against, then for, then against a draft, all in one speech!

Here is what the article really said:

"'Let me restate that: We will not have a draft. No matter what my opponent tries to tell people and scare them, we will have an all-volunteer army,'" promised the president, who is known for frequent verbal stumbles. "

Jfern, are you really so dense that when you post a link, you think people will not read it.

This was trollish.

Wow, two weeks out and this is the best you people can do?  Sad.

The really sad part is that it might just work.

Problem is, you can't tell when Kerry makes a gaffe from when he is just changing his possition in mid-speech

This is a sad stretch... Even sadder is the fact that most of the college students at my campus have been brainwashed to believe that there will be a draft if Bush is elected.

And the Dem.s say the Republicans use scare tactics.

It's just shameful.

I've printed and handed out this flier at my campus quite frequently:

http://www.bigpath.net/politics/Draft/Draft_04/Draft_04.jpg

Do I believe there will be a draft? No. But I'm doing whatever it takes for my party.

This is not a big deal. However, Republicans would be on this if it was Kerry. That's simply partisan politics. You shouldn't rationalize it by saying that he's a flip-flopper and could have changed his mind - that's rationalization plus rhetoric.

There could be a draft. Bush might start WW III. We don't know what will happen.

He is no more likely to start WWIII than John Kerry is.

jfern,

If this is the best you can come up with, your candidate and your party are doomed.

To sink to even close to this level, I'd have to claim Kerry committed attrocities, who was from a family of drug dealers.  The difference is, that's technically accurate, but a distortion.

You are being trollish and hackish.

It is obvious that Kerry thinks that military force may be necessary in Iran and N. Korea as well, he just wouldn't say it in those words.  Perhaps you should rewatch the debate and listen to him dance around the question.

Also, this flyer that is put out on college campuses, If I was voting Dem, and I saw that, It would change my vote in an instant.  Obvious desperate propaganda.  I think most college students can see through it.  Really sick to stoop to that level though.  Maybe next you will start interpreting Nostradamus quatrains into saying that Kerry will win the election and lead us toward the Aquarian age.

Before Bush took office was there pressure on the all-volunteer military to implement a draft? How much pressure?

After Bush's Iraq War policy is there pressure on the all-volunteer military to implement a draft? Has the pressure increased?

Is this a good or bad thing? Who is responsible?

A better question to ask might be - who is volunteering at this point?  I'll wager not many.

What is pressuring the USA to consider a draft?

Enlistment is still strong, especially for the AF, CG and Navy.  The only area having trouble is the NG and Reserves, but they are no where near critical levels.

Can the U.S. military put two more divisions in Iraq with the current manpower? Can the U.S. military take military action against Syria, Iran or N. Korea with the current manpower levels and the requirements of occupying Iraq?
