As many of you already know, I am running a game on two forums. AMSTAR (check for the link in this forum) is being played at both the US Election Atlas, and Alternate History.

I'd like to start a new, very simple, game. It is called The Election Game.

Each forum will submit a team. The US Election Atlas will field Team Purple, while Alternate History will field team Yellow. Each team represents a political party.

The 'country' that you will be playing will be based on an imaginary country that is the combination of the USA, the UK, Canada, and Australia.

You, as players, play the role of political strategists. You therefore write speeches that are read by others, candidates for office.

This is a Presidential Election, and a Legislative Election. You are responsible for both. The President is elected in a direct popular vote, the person who gets the most votes, wins. Voters from across the US, UK, Canada, and Australia will vote. The Legislature is made up of a whopping 723 members, divided among the existing States, Provinces, and Regions. A list will be published shortly. There is only one house of the legislature. Each candidate is an incumbent, a former MP, Peer, Senator, or Congressman, who is running for the new Legislature of the new united nation. This is it's first election.

The only two registered parties are the Purple Party and the Yellow Party, no other candidates will be running, period.

All I need for the game to work is a single player from each forum. The game will run just as well with 100 players from each forum.

First things first, you must decide just whom you are going to run. You need

A - A Presidential candidate. Who is he? Is he male, or is your candidate a female? Where is he from; California, Yorkshire, Queensland, Quebec? How old is he, what's his religion, has he been in politics before, and if so, doing what, for what party? You get to build your own candidate.

B - A Vice Presidential candidate. Same, you build him from the ground up.

C - Candidate for Foreign Secretary. Due to the size of the nation, this is a crucial position. Each electoral team therefore has three people, a Prez, a Veep, and the Foreign Secretary. As with the above two, you build a dream candidate.

You also must, as a team, answer the following questions:

1 - There has been a proposal to lower income taxes on the lowest bracket by increasing the exemption. Will your party support this, even during this recession?

2 - Due to the laws of the nations merged, Abortion is currently legal, however it would be easy to legislate a change in this. Does your party support such a change?

3 - The current, new, constitution, refers to the nation as being a Socialist state. Many propose this be removed, does your party support this?

4 - Currently, the nation has a public health system, but many want the option for private care. Does your party support a private option?

5 - The only official language is English, but many want French or Spanish added, will your party support this?

6 - The nation is a republic, but there are those who want to see the constitutional (powerless) Monarchy added back, will your party support this?

7 - There is a proposal that all government jobs should be unionized, at least on the federal level. Where does your party stand on this issue?

Post your answers to the above questions, and discuss it as a party. In a few days (depending on how many people sign up and how fast the debates go) I will take your answers, and then respond with how the media views your two parties. One party will be viewed more to the left than the other, and one more to the right, this will end up being crucial in the coming election.

Debate beings now

Sounds interesting. Maybe I will revive my fascist persona that I used for ten minutes in the Mock Parliament. Wink

Bad news, due to the outage, the other team has got a head start! They even are planning a candidate!

some stuff from their thread to help you catch up
---

It is no one.

You guys act as a single person. You are a team, so you guys, as a team, play all the roles. If you want to divvy up the roles, that is up to you, but I only officially recognize you as a team.

You can bring up any issues you want, but the 7 above, as well as your candidates, will determine which party the media views as right or left of the other.

---

Who your candidate is will also determine if you are seen as left or right.

an African-American trade unionist from the Bronx will not be viewed as the same as an old white rural farmer from Wyoming, even if they run on identical platforms.

2009. The present

Remember too that this is not just the US, but the US, UK, Canada, and Australia.

The US has about 300 mil people
The UK about 60 mil
Canada about 30
Australia closer to 20

Remember that you need to answer the seven questions as a team, as this will determine where on the spectrum your party fits in.

The sooner you guys finish the above, the sooner we get to the fun stuff

As eluded to earlier, it only takes a single player, so if there is only one person who wants to play, then he can go ahead and design everything himself!

The questions are more important than the candidates, if you can get those to me ASAP, we can 'begin'
