Islam is a religion of, what, 1.2 - 1.3 billion people (iirc). To find some unity in that mass could only take some sort of intellectual perversity.

(And historically if you consider Islam to be a violent religion then it would be very hard not to argue that same of Christianity.)

I know quite a few Muslims and have met more - none of them seemed noticably more violent than the weak-Christians who form the majority here.

Ask, and the almighty wiki shall answer.  An example of President Bush showing that he was at times more sensible than some of his more fervent supporters.  Here is the west we are familiar with enough Christians to know that very few of them are the total waste of skin like Fred Phelps, the 'Christian Identity movement' or the trolls who advocate the genocidal nuking of Mecca.   However, as we are very insulated from the rest of the world (perhaps the understatement of the century) - and many of us don't know mainstream Muslims, some of us can be tempted to jump to conclusions and assume it's all like the ones that get the most airplay (the Phelps's of the Islamic world).  This is especially true of the shallow and bloodthirsty types who fail to realize that those sympathetic to terrorism half a world away are ideologically far closer to them than they would like to imagine.   A small historical change in the place of birth, and Al-Coburn, Al Disraeli, and Al-Rocket would be praising the martyrs without much of an ideological shift at all.
