The Chicago Tribune's states poll numbers from last week were not good for Bush.
It turned out that the newspaper today endorsed Bush.

I doubt the poll numbers have much to do with it.  The Tribune editorial board is very conservative and always endorses the GOP candidate (or at least they have in the past three presidential elections...I don't have an info before that).
