"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has urged his armed forces to be prepared for possible war with Colombia amid growing diplomatic and border tensions.

He said the best way to avoid war was to prepare for it."

Um.  Right.

They also banned violent videogames and toys because they're supposedly a leading cause of the unbelievable violence in Venezuela.

Gotta get some consistency in your policies Hugo...

Columbia has been screwed up since the US helped overthrow but not completely defeat the old government in 1952. Columbia is Exhibit A for what not to do in terms of US foreign policy. But, yeah, Chavez might not be helping the situation.

If Venezuela and Colombia went to war, it would violate Thomas Friedman's Golden Arches Theory of Conflict Prevention: no two countries with a McDonald's franchise have ever gone to war with one another.

Already broken, that. Kosovo in 1999, the Kargil War before that and a couple of other Latin American wars. Also Israel-Lebanon and Russia-Georgia. Possibly even Panama in 1989.

Friedman's modified his theory now.

Do'h! You're right about Russia-Georgia of course. It's worth to note though that Serbia's McDonald's restaurants were shut down during the Kosovo War.

In before increasingly desperate advocates of Democratic Peace Theory claim that either A. Colombia or B. Venezuela are not true democracies.

As if the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War didn't already kill DPT off.

When I saw you had posted, I had assumed you'd be putting some claptrap about standing in solidarity with Comrade Chavez and the laboring masses of Venezuela against the cruel right-wing US propped Uribe regime that is crushing the valiant rebel groups fighting for the oppressed masses of Colombia.

Instead, you post the only possible thing more vapid and braindead than that.

Ah yes DPT, something so moronically false only an American academic "expert" could believe it.
