WOODRUFF: Al Gore speaking in Washington today.

Well here in Colorado, where we are on this Monday, rapid growth and demographic changes are threatening to upset the traditional political equation. As of now, the state is leaning toward President Bush in the latest CNN/"USA Today"/Gallup poll. Fifty-one percent of likely state voters say they back the president, while 45 percent say they are voting for Senator Kerry.

Our Joe Johns has more on the range of factors that could influence the battle for Colorado.

LVs, obviously

Good to see.  I think that Gallup poll showing it tied in CO was just a bad poll.  This is more in line with the other recent Colorado polls.  It would be nice to not have to worry about this state.  Bush, Mrs. Bush, the Cheneys, Barbara Bush, Rudy, John McCain, etc. need to live in Ohio, Florida, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota the next two weeks.  Oh, and send George P. to New Mexico.

I heard today that ARNOLD will be going on a bus trip through Ohio campaigning for Bush.

You officially have permission to not worry about CO until you find one poll with Kerry up.

Expect to see CO substantially de-emphasized in the next week.   It will probably always receive token attention because of the Senate race there, but it is pretty safe for Bush at this point.

I don't see CO going anywhere. In the end, I see Bush doing a bit better than +6.

The ballot initiative should be defeated pretty easily, so the only remaining bit of drama is Coors/Salazar. I'd like to say I'm not a total partisan, but really, I see Salazar as another Daschle. Not that he could get a way with what Daschle manages to get away with, but it's easy to imagine him as a conservative during election time and something else the rest of the time. Maybe it's just that he's using tactics similar to Dashcle's, I don't know. Could be wrong, though.

At least Coors has roared back from the big deficit he once had.

Having the incubent President Bush campaigning next to him should make that doubly (or 'dubya'ly) hard.

Bush isn't exactly popular in California, in case you'd missed it.

My point is, he'll be much more popular in CA in 2006, during his second term.

California won't forget that Bush refused to allow price caps to keep California from getting price gouged by Enron.

Arnold is very popular in CA.

Bush isn't, and never will be.

Arnold isn't exactly a Bush fanatic. He's trying to keep one step away to secure to SF/LA vote.

Gee, the Federal government didn't reduce the price of a commodity that CA couldn't get at the price they were paying anyhow.  You really sould read Atlas Shrugged.

As wasn't the reason for the problems Gray Davis's plan?
