While O Holy Night is truly my all time favorite, this one is truly a masterpiece just because it works so well:

Night of Silence sung in tandem with Silent Night.

Written by Eric Kantor in 1981, my school district has performed the song every year since 1987.  That's probably why it has such sentimental value for me, having sung it for 4 years and seen it performed every year since high school.

Not the best recording ever.. but there wasn't much to choose from

Here are the lyrics, which I find kind of cool:

1. Cold are the people, Winter of life, We tremble in shadows this cold endless night, Frozen in the snow lie roses sleeping, Flowers that will echo the sunrise, Fire of hope is our only warmth, Weary, its flame will be dying soon.

2. Voice in the distance, call in the night, On wind you enfold us you speak of the light, Gentle on the ear you whisper softly, Rumors of a dawn so embracing, Breathless love awaits darkened souls, Soon will we know of the morning.

3. Spirit among us, Shine like the star, Your light that guides shepherds and kings from afar, Shimmer in the sky so empty, lonely, Rising in the warmth of your Son's love, Star unknowing of night and day, Spirit we wait for your loving Son.

Ugh, I'm so sick of that song.  My Irish friends LOVE it and think I should based on my Jerseyness.

I'm surprised those lyrics I'm sure you're familiar with by now aren't your favorite:

"Last Christmas, I gave you my heart... the very next day, you gave it away"

A song I had never heard until my Austrian shenanigans.

But it's always better in Austrenglish
"Laast Chrismis I gafe to you mine heart, and da verry nex day, you gabe it away..  I sound like Ahnold becuz I am from da Steiermark""

Fairytale of New York is my favorite.

That song always makes me emotional and sentimental.

Okay.  This first one -- ignore the pic -- is by Mary Chapin Carpenter.  It's SO what I believe Advent and Christmas should be about...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_B7zUceNPU

My second favorite is "Shepherds" by Bruce Cockburn.  But, unfortunately, I could not find a You Tube link with the song or a vid.  Cockburn's Christmas album is well worth your time, though and here's a link from the record company...  (IGNORE THE MUSIC THAT AUTOPLAYS -- just click on the play tracks)

http://truenorthrecords.com/Albums.php?album_id=38        TRY TRACK 9 -- "SHEPHERDS"

As far as "the classics" go -- this one.  Bing Crosby has just the sweetest, mellowest voice.  If you can't appreciate the crooners...well...I know.  To each his own.  But wow...

Ah the memories, JS. I sang Drummer Boy in sixth grade before the array of parents at some Xmas event just before my voice broke with two other guys in the elite private grammar school that I attended (at the time the most elite in Los Angeles actually). I  was told I sounded quite angelic. Anyway, due to that, and because the song is pretty easy to sing, it is one of my favorite Christmas songs.

Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses

Unfortunately, [according to Wiki] in recent years due to it not having a promotional video it has not received as much airplay.
