This thread is home to Stovesby's upmarket morning paper. The Post likes to see itself as being the voice of the city's business community and is regarded as being close to the MCP. It is owned by the Stovesby Newspaper Group which, in turn, is controlled by the shadowy Sir Julius Benedict.

Campaign off to slow start

Elections to Stovesby City Council are now just weeks away, but little activity has been noticable on the ground. The Socialists are expected to maintain control, but the size of their majority remains in doubt. The Morning Post understands that a planned visit to the city by the Leader of the Commons has been called off at the last minute. Mr Butler had been due to address senior MCP figures at the Town Hall tomorrow, but is unwell.

Socialists Set To Retain Town Hall

With polling day nearly upon us, thoughts turn inevitably towards the municipal elections. An exclusive analysis of electoral prospects by our Municipal Affairs Correspondent has been combined with the latest technology to produce the following map:



The Socialists are expected to retain fourteen wards, the Conservatives seven. In a further six wards the outcome is regarded as uncertain. These wards are:

St Johns: normally a safe Conservative ward, recent margins have been surprisingly low and the Socialist candidate, Mr T.D. Thomas, is reported to be running a strong campaign.

Soult: a close battle between the Liberals and the Conservatives is expected in this ward.

Culzeansands: much as Soult. The Liberal candidate - Mr J.A. Henning - has let it be known that he expects to be elected.

Upper Stovesby: as ever, a key seat between the Socialists and the Conservatives.

Gawther: an aggressive Conservative campaign has sparked repeated visits from senior Socialist councillors; and from Mr William Woodley MP, a member of the Shadow Cabinet.

Eastridge: a longtime bastion of the Residents Association, local Conservatives think that a breakthrough is 'more than possible'.

Our correspondent has heard numerous claims about other wards, but does not given them credit.
