Would Crist change his party if Rubio was nominated, whether to the Dems or to an Independant? Would he be able to win as a Democrat or an Independant?

Apparently, Crist is meeting with the President on Thursday. I bet the FL Primary will come up at some point between the two...

If you haven't heard he is meeting to discuss his disappointment with the lack of bipartisanship.
He won't switch parties, well if he wants to win another election he won't.

It's possible. Even though I think if he makes such a move, it will be to switch from Republican to Independent than from Republican to Democrat.

I agree with this. Given Florida's partisan leanings, I don't see him as benefitting much by changing.

It's time to stop RINO hunting.

No, and it's a shame every non-wacko in the GOP is speculated to change parties.

Lol Crist is not losing this primary because of his political leanings. The only reason he hasn't locked this up is because FL's economy and budget have collapsed under his watch and instead of seeing it through he choose to abandon the state to go to Washington. That guy is a self-centered, self-absorbed narcisist. I don't know why you guys like him so much.

Crist is not a RINO. He is the epitome of Gov't gone bad. A political coward.

Arlen Specter: Had financial backings and the support of (normally Democratic supporting) labor unions and much of the (normally Democratic supporting) Jewish community.

Crist makes so much crazy money from the Republican establishment machine.  They hate Marco because he's less controllable.  If Crist switched parties he'd switch from making $2m a quarter to nothing, and if he refunded GOP establishment money I'm not sure if he'd be in anything but the red.

In a very polarized state like Florida, it would most likely hurt him much more than help him. Many of Republican Floridians, especially in the more conservative base, would see it as almost a betrayal. It would be political suicide for him.

Could he just run for Governor instead, if he loses the Senate primary?  He didn't even want to run for Senate in the first place.

If so, doesn't Rubio share more than a little of the blame as House Speaker? Not quite as much as the governor, obviously, but he shouldn't he be a close second?

I don't think there's much of a chance of him switching. I would probably be tantamount to political suicide.

He'd never run as a Democrat.  I could see him running as an Independent though.  He'd likely still caucus with the GOP but he'd be even harder to whip than Snowe probably.

The founder of Daily Kos wants it, but if Crist became a Democrat or an Indy and ran he'd just give the seat to Meek.

At this point I could see him pulling a Lincoln Chafee (switching to independent after the fact).
