I'll just go with some older candidates.

John C. Fremont(over Buchanan), Henry Clay, William H. Harrison(He did win the election, but...), and Winfield Scott.

Forgot one.

John Hancock- Was one of the candidates to command the Army during the Revolution and in victory would have likely gained the same fame as Washington did and would have been elected as the first President of the United States.
