Over a period of time, is it possible that the United States of America could ever become the People's Republic of America, with a system of government similar to that of China?

What could cause such an event?

I believe in a rule "never say never", because you simply cannot predict what happen in next 20-30 years, much more 100.

Right now I don't see this possible.

I don't see how it could happen unless the Constitution was thrown out completely by some sort of coup or revolution.  And If that were to happen then I doubt that anyone would be able to keep the union together.  Texas and California would almost certainly declare their independence and I wouldn't be surprised to see Florida, New York, Hawaii, and Alaska do the same.
