No Republican will ever win D.C., period.

I really can't see any Republican that can carry Vermont, but loose New Hampshire.

What if Lincoln and Nathan Bedford Forrest were resurrected from the dead, with Lincoln being the GOP candidate and Forrest being the Democratic candidate?

Yeah, but in those days Vermont was one of the safest states for the GOP in the nation. Today it is New Hampshire that is the most conservative of the New England states.

The GOP won't win DC unless they go back to being on the left.

Even more difficult to believe is a GOP that can carry Vermont, Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts and Maine and every state of the Deep South.

...

Well, assuming that resurrection was real and that a zombie could make it through a primary...I would assume that the Democrats could find a better candidate and that Lincoln would want nothing to do with today's GOP.

If so, under which circumstances and with which candidates?

Non-incumbency election, where incumbent White House party's term-limited president has approval rating of 49%.

R-New York/R-Michigan vs. D-Texas/D-Florida

Very witty switching the party colors like that.

Forrest would narrowly carry it.

and Arnold Vinick

that was completely unrealistic. Vinick was a near-perfect candidate for New Hampshire.

I doubt a candidate could win OH and MS, but lose KY and TN. Anything in particular I should know about this map?

Maybe if a racist and populist Democrat is to the right of a very liberal, atheist Republican, resulting in two very strong "third"-party candidates on both the left and the right.

In no world remotely resembling ours.
