I'd also like to say that over my time in Atlasia I hope to think I've built up a bit of a reputation as an honest individual that straight-up says what I think. I very rarely hold things back entirely. You'd be surprised how many times, if you're bold enough to state what you think openly, how many people will agree that didn't want to openly say so themselves. (My newsletter wasn't popular for awhile for no reason afterall.)

Campaign Update.

I had a decent interview with Teddy, answering a handful of questions and elaborating mostly on my hopes toward improving the position of the Vice President. If any of you are interested, check it out here.

As a voter, I've taken a look at your Refresh Atlasia Project

It is nearly perfect, but I would offer the following amendment to it:
Article One - Section One - Point One - The word "Ten" replaced with "Eleven"
along with
Article One - Section One - Point Three - The word "but" replace with "and", the word "no" with "a", and the words "unless they be equally divided" stricken.

Expanding the Senate is an option, but it would need many more changes than just those two and it would require considerable debate. I am not immediately inclined to favor the proposal, but "Refresh Atlasia" would require a Constitutional Convention (albeit narrower in mission than the last one) and decisions on matters like this would be up to that group.

Also, either way I would like the Vice President to maintain a tie-breaking in the event that some senators are absentee or abstaining and a tie vote occurs.

In my dream world, the President would also get a senate seat! I think that'd be going a bit too far though, but if there is a constitutional convention, I'll certainly see if I can do some convincing Wink

I was brainstorming privately with PS a few weeks back talking about possibly making the VP position or both the VP and P positions have the full power of Senate seats, but if the former is proposed, it makes me look power-mad or something, and if the latter is proposed, there's no process for tie-breakers.

Just my two cents:

How about give the Pres. and VP the power to introduce bills. Cabinet Members also, but those would have to directly involve the issues of their department. Just my idea. Smiley

Any votes to change would need to pass, hence, any bill that changes anything would need to pass and not tie.

I'm definitely considering asking for a president's slot on the Senate floor, but that will be for the Senate to decide.

Here's a big time question from me that could very well sway my vote. The Mideast recently has passed an Abortion Ban as you may very well know. If I'm correct, that would mean three out of five regions have severe restrictions against a Woman's right to an abortion. Will there be any attempt on the part of the Federal Government to overturn these laws in a Purple State government?

While I thank you for your question, I don't believe it is something that the Atlasian presidency has power over. Any federal abortion policy would need to pass as an amendment, which the President cannot control.

If the Senate were to pass an amendment regarding abortion, I would have to see the language before deciding whether I would publicly support or oppose it. However, rest assured that I would put the resources of my administration into the effort.

Way to duck the question, Purple State.  Tongue

I don't see why this would have to be an amendment.  The Senate could pass this as ordinary legislation.

Edit: well, maybe not.

They probably could, but it would have to endure a court challenge I imagine.

I think my voting record demonstrates where I stand on the issue. I want to make it clear that if elected president, I don't plan on standing idly by as big issues are discussed. Expect me to inject some presidential muster into debates. But that said, I want to make it clear that the Atlasian presidency is not an all-powerful position, especially when it comes to federal abortion policy.

So if elected, Purple State/Marokai Blue would seek to overturn regionally-approved abortion bans at the federal level?

I would have no power to do so either way, nor would afleitch/whomever, RosettaStoned/useful idiot or yougo1000/whomever. The only way the president can affect the course of an amendment is by lending their support and by voting in the regional referendum.

The Senate can do it if it likes. It's ultimately up to them, and this is hardly our top priority.
