It's been discussed elsewhere, way too long to go into easily.

11.6% swing. This is looking disastrous.

Big swing, but the BNP stood for the first time in Sunderland West, so again not a great indication except for other seats the BNP contests for the first time. Also, BNP retains their deposit--worthy of boos.

I asked the team of Brit voting experts and I think Al confirmed it was tradition based on Cornwall being of dissenter religion, not Anglican, in an era when religion was the most salient factor in more rural areas rather than class. Dissenters in rural areas voted for the Liberal party, and did not switch to Labor when that party gained traction.

11.6% Lab-Con swing...

Many Labour votes are going to the BNP and UKIP though...

from BBC

Could be bad news, with the shit hitting the fan in Greece already and the near disaster on Wall Street this afternoon.

Since the general expectation was a hung Parliament, the market should have already factored that in.  I'd only expect a big swing if the Tories do get a majority (or a near-majority).

Exactly- they weren't running in a lot of seats last time. We need to see what marginals switch.

The 8% swing towards the Tories in Washington & Sutherland West is what counts imo.

This business about people being turned away while they're in line is absurd.

If the reports of a slight Labour rise in Scotland and Wales are true, are there any seats that could be gains for them?

Still too early to say if the exit poll is accurate. Not on those results.

Just to see if people really want AV on the Australian model.

53% Lab
22% Con
17% LD
5% BNP
3% UKIP

UKIP elimated 2% to Con 1% to BNP
53% Lab
24% Con
17% LD
6% BNP

BNP eliminated, 1% to Labour, 5% to Con

54% Lab
27% Con
17% LD

LD eliminated. In urban seats, LDs tend to be very anti-Labour, so let's split it similar to the London Mayors race. 10% Con, 7% Labour

62% Labour
38% Con

Maybe he was working the precincts, and went to his constituency vote result place to hear the result of his seat, and to meet his pals etc. Maybe he has a life.

2005 Result was Lab 50%, Con 25%. If the swing really is 10%+ like in the last two seats this could be close.

Ya, perhaps in internets across the pond are clogged due to the election, although we do seem to have some other Brits with us. Or maybe Wales is relatively backward when it comes to internet lines.
