Since what election have exit polls been conducted and divided based on race? Where I can find this data? (Such as who won the white, black, Latino vote in 1936, for example.)

I don't like dividing ppl up based on race. It's an elitist thing to do.

Well, the U.S. census does it and so does the media when they are taking exit polls (most of the time).

Yes that's all interesting, but I'm talking about assuming one's income, perspective, religion, or thoughts based on the color of their skin. I have a problem with going that far because it borders on unintentional racism.

Modern exit polling doesn't go back too far, but scholars can get the data anyway because of housing segregation.

I have a book from the early 1980's which has the breakdown of the votes by whites and "Non-whites". It goes back to 1952. The Non-white vote is this:

1952 D 79-21
1956 D 61-39
1960 D 68-32
1964 D 94-6
1968 D 85-12 ( They have Wallace at 3. Go figure.)
1972 D 87-13
1976 D 85-15
1980 D 86-10

The book is "Presidential Elections Sixth Edition"

you should also consider that definitions of race have changed over time. for example, the widespread use of Latino as a disticnt racial category is fairly recent.

I thought Eisenhower did very well with Blacks... apparently only in 1956, then.

Most Republicans did until the Civil Rights Act in 1964.

Keep in mind that the non-white vote also includes Latinos and Asians. Thus, its possible Ike did better with blacks than the total non-white % shows.
