I am directly descended from the following monarchs, and therefore have a soft spot for all of them:
Emperor Charlemagne
Emperor Louis I
King Robert I
King Hugh Capet
King Robert II
King William I of England

Besides those, Victoria and Edward VII

Least favourites: Henry IV and most of the Lancasters

I hate to be a ball-breaker, but everybody with Western European descent theoretically has descent from Charlemagne. All English people have theoretical descent from Edward I too, so we'd all be related to William I as well.

He is.  He does have a great deal of influence however, as he is very popular and greatly loved.  Additionally, before the nastiness of democracy took hold here in the early 1990s, the country was usually ruled by military juntas.  The king is believed to have been very friendly with those.

I miss those days, as the military dictatorships were much less likely to crack down on private behaviours on 'moral' grounds.

I've always had a soft spot for Maximillian, who was Emperor of Mexico. He was a good man who meant well. All the other monarchs are basically horrible.

wasn't there a military dictatorship in the 70s that was really right wing, and during that time there was lots of communist rebels in Thailand?
