Paternal Grandfather: Non-combat during WWII. Drove entertainers to bases.

Paternal Great Uncles: Both served in WWII, one was on a navy vessel at one point being attacked by kamikaze planes. The other saw no combat. I never met either in person.

Maternal Grandfather: Served in WWII. Not sure what he did, but I'm pretty sure he was non-combat.

Maternal Uncle: Non-combat mechanic in the Philippeans during Vietnam.

I also have a cousin in college considering joining the marines, but I think he is just going through a masculine phase Wink

Two of my great-grandfathers fought on opposing sides in WWII. That's really all I know, there's no one left on my dad's side of the family to tell the story and my grandfather doesn't talk about his childhood in Nazi Germany. All I really know is that the Nazis took all his vehicles from his local business and I think he was positioned in Africa.

Dad was conscripted in the Birthday lottery for Vietnam, but because he was studying a subject of use to the army (engineering) he didn't go over. Then he did postgrads in Architecture and Town Planning, and by the time he was done he wasn't needed. Sent him up to Darwin as a Commonwealth scout and after Cyclone Tracy he worked as a 'spy' based out of London. His father was on the HMAS Castlemaine, mainly as an escort through the coral sea and also around Darwin/Timor/Carpentaria. Also on that side had a Rat of Tobruk and some Flanders and Galipolli grunts in WWI. On mum's side, Gpa was in the the RAAF and the army, as a bomber pilot until he lost a plane and wouldn't fly again, and in the hills in New Guinea. Also some WWI western front relatives. As for myself, I'm fortunate enough not to need to serve but if it became necessary I'd enlist. Obviously, I wouldn't fight for a country that demanded my service as it wouldn't be worth defending, so if there was a draft I'd dodge it.

All I know is that my granddad served in WWII and as he gets older, he starts to reminisce on his time overseas. Neither of my parents served in the military. I'm sure my mom's family fought for the glorious southland during the War of Northern Aggression though. Wink

My great great grandfather helped burned down Atlanta in the war of Southern Stubbornness. The only other military service that I know of is my Grandfather being in the navy during Vietnam.

I've played Call of Duty, Hearts of Iron, and Battlefield 1942

As well as Worms Armageddon

I won three campaignes in the Operation Flashpoint.

Only Age Of Empires here. I II III.

My biggest campaign have been with Mongols in II. First good protections, screw the other attacks through barricades, raise a great army, and screw all other civilizations all over the map. Was a long time ago though.

My father was from Portugal and he was in the Colonial war in Angola.

My grandfather (mothers side) was in WWII (German Army) and from 1943-1949 POW in Siberia. His Father was in WWI (Verdun)

I was one year in the Bundeswehr and made there nothing special. I was only 80-90 KM stationed from home and slept the most of the time at home Wink

Going back three generations, which takes me through the entire 20th century, my great grandfather was a WWI Marine.  My maternal grandfather was a WWII Marine and was wounded at Okinawa.  My paternal grandfather was a WWII Army/Air Force Vet.  My father is a Vietnam Navy Vet from 1971-1977.  My brother is a 16-year Navy vet since 1994.  He will be starting year #17 in the US Navy this Sunday, June 13, 2010.  He will most likely retire in 4 years once he reaches 20 years.  I wanted so bad to join the Navy right after high school and follow in the footsteps of my father and my brother before me and have the American Flag draped over my casket, but my medicine and my glasses kept me from doing so.  I even had an ancestor serve in the Civil War on the Union side.

Decided to go dig through my stuff and pull up the Civil War records of my great, great, great grandfathers, all of whom(except one) fought for the Confederacy.

- William Sewell fought with the 31st North Carolina Infantry brigade, under General Thomas Lanier Clingman, a former Senator. They saw action at Cold Harbor and the Siege at Petersburg most notably. He obtained the rank of corporal

- Lewis Herring was a private in the 38th North Carolina Infantry, a component of the Army of Northern Virginia under the command of General William Pender(killed at Gettysburg). They also saw action at Cold Harbor, as well as at the 2nd Battle of Manassas, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Chancellorsville.

-William Cook fought in the 3rd North Carolina Infantry Regiment, also seeing action at Cold Harbor, Gettysburg, Appomattox, Chancellorsville, and Fredericksburg.

- James Medlin was a member of the 1st Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery, which stayed in North Carolina from its formation in 1863 until the end of the war, seeing action at Fort Fisher and Fort Anderson. He entered as a corporal and left as a private, don't know what that was about Tongue

- William A. Robbins was a member of the 1st Regiment of the North Carolina Artillery, as part of the Army of Northern Virginia, taking part in their campaigns.

- Henry Strickland fought with the 31st North Carolina Infantry, which saw action at Cold Harbor, Petersburg, and Bentonville
