First, do both the Democratic and Republican primaries.

Second, use IRV for the purposes of this thread (for example, if I prefer candidate X but he's not available, who would I support instead).

Third, for each party, assume that the previous poster is genuinely a member of said party (in other words, when you're figuring out how I would vote in the Democratic primary, your answer should deal with which Democrat I would genuinely prefer as President, and not who I would support because they would hand the election over to the Republicans).

You might list who all were running to make this work. And of course, it is further complicated by the fact that in the GOP candidates dropped out over time, so by the time the poster's state voted, the list might be different than what would be the list at an earlier or later point in time in the GOP primary season. The Dem primary is easier, but the same issue obtains.

Here is a link to the saga of the coming and goings of the GOP candidates, and when. And don't forget Alan Keyes!  Tongue

Giovanni's list of candidates will do. I'd ask that it be used regardless of state.

Evan Bayh? Did he run? I don't remember.

If not, maybe Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden or something.

Your first preference would have gone to a self-described libertarian? Tongue

Also, what about the GOP primaries? The OP asked to give both parties for everyone.

1. Gravel was my first choice during Democratic primaries, before be became a LINO.
2. I'd have really hard time with GOP preferences.

Oh, yet another one who now denies having supported Barack Obama as top choice in the primaries. Just like the Republicans who claim to have never supported George W. Bush...Wink

Gravel was not a LINO. Each and every individual has his or her own views that may here or there diverge from the platform of one's party. Gravel was certainly more of a Libertarian than the clown the LP ended up nominating.

Barack Obama was and is much closer to your self-professed ideology in favor of big government.

Dear Libertas. I find that's quite amusing that you always need to accuse all other posters of lying or hiding their real preferences.

Right, so Mr. Big Government (i.e. you) would have first-preferenced a libertarian for President in 2008. Makes sense.
