We really should have held off on the final vote until the sponsor's requested Monday for the Comprehensive Social Security Reform Act.

That was the plan, until the sponsor change his mind. And made a post calling for a final vote.

If the sponsor changes his mind again and wants to continue, we can pull one of BK's patented tricks to shutdown the final vote.

I don't know what this generic right v left ocntroversy is but it bores me so I'll just ignore it. I simply don't believe 24 hours is enough time to spend considering a bill. I don't think it's reasonable to expect that everyone will even see the thread in that amount of time. I have always tried with my bills to allow a chance for other Senators to raise concerns rahter than go to a vote too quickly even if it looked like the bill would pass easily.

Aside from that, if a bill is important enough that it needs to be rushed, the least that can be done is for the sponsor to make a statement explaining why it's needed. If you want my vote, advocate for it.
For example, when I proposed my recent constitutional amendment, I explained it in a public thread before it even came to a vote in the Senate. I don;t think it's completely coincidental that of the recent proposed constitutional amendments, mine is the one is suceeding with unanimous support

I agree, Senators should review each other's work too look for problems they failed to notice. At the same time, there have been instances where there was no debate at all in a thread and we had to just wait the 72 hours doing nothing. That is what I primarily intended this change to be for. And if you want reviewing of bills, then maybe a more active Senate is required. The presence of this procedure will hopefully provide some motivation as well for innactive and inattentive Senators to pay attention to whats happening.

Does anyone know off hand what the limit on the number of bills one Senator can have on the floor at a time, if any limit at all? I can't remember from the last time this came up (though 5 and 3 stick in my head), and I haven't had any luck finding it in the wiki.

My third Semester begins tomorrow. For the first time since High School, I have classes all five weekdays. Mondays and Wednesday are the heaviest. As many of you know, the internet is not a utility present for me wherever I go (Stupid Cellphones these days, what the hell is the world coming too? Tongue). So, essentially, none of you have to worry about me pulling two-three weeks of morning only online activity like in July.

Too make a long story short, I may not get on tomorrow.

As I stated in the PPT thread, I am right now extremely busy with a group project/presentation that was assigned last Friday and due on Wednesday (and that's just my luck, too: only one group presents each week so every other group has much longer to prepare).

Because I have this short-term commitment that significantly limits the time I have available, I hereby state that I am on a declared absence until Wednesday at 9PM forum time. Under Article 1, Section 3 of the OSPR, this allows the Dean of the Senate, NCYankee, full authority to operate the Senate as its presiding officer.

I'll still be here whenever I can, of course; at the very least I'll run the PPT nominations/elections for Yankee so there's not a conflict of interest with him posting the booth for his own reelection (which personally I don't see a problem with, back in the day MasterJedi did all the time, but I suppose NCYankee prefers it that way).

But yeah, declared absence until Wednesday. Thanks everyone.

It felt awkward last July, especially with that issue regarding bgwah's undeclared candidacy.

I haven't made up my mind yet and it's possible I may not run again at all, still. Though in case I decide to do so this potential issue is resolved.

I have only been PPT an hour and I have already violated the OSPR. I am a long term incumbent so no one will think about pressing charges. Tongue

You have until tomorrow to decide whether or not you want to take on Marokai, Oakvales, or Junkie's sitting bills, otherwise they get canned. I'll take the Nuke one that I illegally introduced if no one else wants it.

Marokai Blue dispatched Napoleon's languishing bills as per the OSPR with great haste, he didn't extend the same courtesy to the bills of bgwah, and other now former Senators. It is my opinion that the game needs debate, not a filled trash can. So I am going to ignore the OSPR's trashcan provision and allow these to be brought to the floor. So which of the remaining Senators wants to take these?

Of the 12 remaining bills in the queue, I think 8 are either from bgwah or Jake Matthews. They need new sponsors.

I am instituting a new policy. With exception of leaves of Absence, the failure of a sponsor to post in a bill in the first 24 hours will lead me to motion to table the bill.

Try skatting around that, Scott. Tongue

Another New Policy:

Supposing the sponsor does post in 24 hours, but no one argues against the Bill in the same period, this situation will lead me to invoke UC which will allow us to proceed to a final vote after a minimum of only 48 hours in this scenario. There will be no LOA exception for this one.

I have bad news,

I knew I had a lot of school work to do today, but I hadn't planned on another assignment being foisted on top of that, which I have just finished. The Good news is that after seven hours it is finished. The bad news is that the other stuff I have to do today, remains to be done. I'll do my best, but I doubt I will get to do much today for the Senate. The OSPR bill gets to sit another day, which is pissing me off because I wanted to start working on the committees last weekend.

I expect to be back up to speed tomorrow night, and things to be caught up completely by Wednesday.

If MoPolitico still hasn't showed and doesn't by tomorrow, he is screwed six ways to Sunday.

"No time left for you"

Poor MoPolitico has run out of energy, run out of time, and unfortunately he will likely be run out of town for it.

Expulsion proceedings will soon start!

Edit: Well after dinner that is. Tongue

It appears that turnover of the bottom 9 has increased significantly recently. I noticed that during the absence of my updated senority lists (September through March), all the Senators on the September list were gone by March, save the same 1 you mention. And by May about half the March list will have departed from our midst.
