Libertas, why don't you quit with the knee-jerk reactions for once and listen.

If it werent for Stalin, there would be no Jews left (although, given your views..) and the peoples of the Slavic lands would be in slavery. Russia was a backward agricultural land when Lenin took it over and if it werent for Stalin's mass industrialisation, the Nazis could have invaded Russia and won, thus condemning the entire world to fascism. What's more, most of the people in the Gulags were in fact common criminals before you start on that little number.

Mao, yeah, he did alot of stupid things. Obviously encouraging the killing of sparrows and the construction of backyard steel furnaces were both absolutely ridiculous ideas which, in the former case, caused famine and in the latter, were just generally stupid. But he did good too. Lifting the peasants from abject poverty for example.

Both of them made mistakes. But any communist revolution would require violence to some extent, unfortunately.
