The momentum appears to be with Sheheen then.  Earlier this month, Nikki had a 21 point lead over Sheheen (55% to 34%), and now its only a 12 point lead.

Still a tough road for Sheheen to climb, but it looks doable if Sheheen doesn't pack it in like Moore did on '06 against Sanford.

I doubt Haley is beatable in this climate unless a major scandal with actual proof emerges. Even then, she probably still wins. Sanford's little game didn't hurt his ratings that much.

I don't think the scandal will hurt Haley at all.  Indeed, during the primary it helped her by drawing in all the political oxygen so that none of the others could point out that she'd be as ineffective as Sanford was these past eight years and for the exact same reasons.  Sheheen's got time to let that particular fire go out and run a campaign that has a chance of succeeding against Haley.  I just hope he doesn't take lessons from the Roy Barnes school of campaigning across the Savannah.  That sort of campaign might win Barnes the Democratic primary next month, but I think it's digging Barnes political grave for the general election.
