I'd say the finding of the Siena poll more or less reflect my opinion of the various US Presidents, although I'll admit I've always thought Bush Sr. a little underrated and Clinton a little overrated.

I couldn't find a thread on this anywhere, but I might have missed one so feel free to delete/move or whatever.

Anyway, what say you, uh, Atlas people?

EDIT: Here's a link to the raw poll data, if you're interested.

Since the professorial field is overwhelmingly liberal Democrat, these findings are worthy of an eye roll and nothing more.  Anyone who thinks Bill Clinton was a better President than Ronald Reagan needs their head examined.  Obama in the top 15?  Lol.

Too early to tell....although I haven't had the opinion that Obama's much better than average yet.

So more confirmation that "presidential scholars" are idiots and hacks.

Their criteria for choosing good presidents consist of who killed the most people, impoverished the most families, and destroyed the most freedom.

Interesting. I would have put Madison, Monroe, Wilson, Kennedy, Clinton, and Jackson lower and put Harding, W. Harrison, Ford, Taft, Arthur, and John Adams higher.

Clinton was a better President than Reagan. At least Clinton managed to balance the budget three times, something which the self-proclaimed fiscally conservative Reagan failed to do even once.

Clinton only balanced the budget because he cut programs + raised taxes. And there was still a federal deficit.

Well that's good, considering that Reagan also did both and yet failed to balance the budget. And what deficit?

The deficit disappeared under Clinton. It only reappeared again under the self-proclaimed "fiscally conservative" Bush Jr.

Roll Eyes

Or maybe they're more likely to be liberal because they know and understand history, whereas conservatives are, as the old saying goes, just doomed to repeat it?

To be fair, they start out all new presidents at 20 and then move them up and down based on performance. Bush was supposedly at 22 when they did the poll last, in 2002. Now he has rightfully dropped down to 39. Still, it's a little silly to rank a president who hasn't even been in office for 2 years.

I am surprised JQ Adams is so high up on the list.

Also Wilson and Kennedy two more surprising additions in the top ten.

Why is Kennedy so surprising?  From what I've heard lately he and Eisenhower are probably the only two modern presidents widely liked by both parties.

Why are they ranking Obama already? Sitting presidents shouldn't be ranked in these things. I see that it has become very "cool" for everyone to bash Obama on here now though... almost makes me want to stick up for the guy again. Almost.

Anyway, Reagan is far too high up, he should be towards the bottom imo.
