This poll was conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. of Washington, D.C. from July 12 through July 14, 2010. A total of 625 registered Nevada voters were interviewed statewide by telephone. All stated they vote regularly in state elections.

Those interviewed were selected by the random variation of the last four digits of telephone numbers. A cross-section of exchanges was utilized in order to ensure an accurate reflection of the state. Quotas were assigned to reflect voter turn-out by county.

The margin for error, according to standards customarily used by statisticians, is no more than plus or minus 4 percentage points. This means that there is a 95 percent probability that the "true" figure would fall within that range if the entire population were sampled.

The margin for error is higher for any subgroup, such as a gender or regional grouping.

This poll also includes an over-sampling 400 likely voters in the Third Congressional District. This over-sampling is of additional voters added to the statewide survey in order to increase the sample size within the district. These additional respondents were only asked the questions relative to the Third District race. The margin for error on these results is plus or minus 5%.

SAMPLE FIGURES:

Men 303 (48%)
Women 322 (52%)

Democrats 269 (43%)
Republicans 248 (40%)
Independents 108 (17%)

REGION

Clark County    405 interviews
Washoe County    125 interviews
Rural Nevada    95 interviews

For a moment, I was worried the awful candidate would win. Then this poll came out, showing that the awful candidate had actually moved ahead of the awful candidate! Dodged a bullet!

Nevada's so lucky.

Can we agree that whether you're a Democrat or Republican, Angle plumbs a level of awfulness not reached by Harry Reid?

I don't like Reid, but he has a basic level of competence, consistency, and sanity that Angle lacks. I feel like Reid losing should be the equivalent to Mike DeWine losing to someone like Paul Hackett in 2006... a person I disagree with losing to someone with no place in the U.S. Senate.

Hahahaha if Reid does manage to pull this off and win this it would be one of the most surreal political victories of all time. I've been disgusted with Reid at times like most Democrats here, but given the toxic environment for Democrats this fall and the importance of every single Senate seat I wouldn't mind him staying around.

I hope Reid wins, if only because it would annoy people who i don't like.

The same goes for me.

To be fair, he's been a successful Majority Leader, but, he puts too much stock in finding one or two Republican votes on everything (of course, it's not his fault the Republicans want to filibuster everything). And, he also comes off as rather weak and non-forceful.

I'm hopeful that he may retire as Leader. Probably not, though.

If the Dems don't have anything close to 60 votes this year, he will have a very tough time getting things through just like after 2006.

I don't trust Mason Dixon Polls, they didn't have a very good track record in 2008, so why would I believe their polling now... Just saying.

Mason Dixon is highly respected on this site. That said, Reid leading Angle by six points is hardly reassuring to Dems when the undecideds are so high, as they frequently are with M-D before mid-autumn.

Actually, Mason-Dixon was very accurate towards the end of 2008...

Why did the NV GOP just have to nominate Sharron "Second Amendment" Angle?

Not on their senate numbers... but I really doesn't matter.

Wait, you think the problem with Sharron Angle, who favors scientology massages and abolishing social security, is that she supports gun rights in Nevada?

Plus: A new Mason-Dickson Nevada poll of 400 RV will be out in the next few days ...

YAY for joke polling.

God, the days when that would have been blasphemy... Sad

The establishment Republicans are supporting Reid to keep him as the majority leader. They're fighting hard, but anti-establishment sentiment will only grow between now and November.

I hear he is much tougher than his public persona indicates in behind the scenes stuff.

RedState has ruled this poll to be deeply flawed and untrustworthy, becaues Mason Dixon underestimated Angle by 6 points in the NV GOP primary.

Man, if we ruled out every poll that missed a candidate by 6 points in a 3-way primary, we'd have no polls left.

It's not the job of the federal government to create jobs.  Unfortunately most voters are idiots.
