President Franklin Roosevelt passes away in 1938.  John Nancy Garner is President and appoints Eleanor Roosevelt to be Ambassador to England.  She serves until 1941.  Alf Landon is elected President in 1940.  There is no World War II and the Great Depression is almost a memory.  It is now 1944.  Here are the candidates:

(R) Alf Landon/William Borah
(D) Eleanor Roosevelt/Harley Kilgore

What happens?

I'm kind of fuzzy on how World War II didn't happen. But hey that's your call Smiley

Landon wins by a wide margin. Wow, There's a sentence I never thought I'd type.

No Hitler=No Holocaust=No need for Israel.

Wow, That would change a lot of things.

Here's a better idea. Have Hitler be assassinated in 1938 after the Munich Agreement. Then have the new German "Furher" decide that taking over Czechoslovakia is enough and that another European war is unnecessary. Oh, and the new Fuhrer is not an anti-Semite, and thus there is no Holocaust.

Landon landslide. However, Roosevelt might come very close to winning (or actually win) the female vote, since many women wanted to see one of their own as President. The reason for the GOP win is that back then, typically when times were good most people voted GOP.

Landon barely wins. Also, I could see a potential alternative history TL from this.......

Yeah.  It's something I've been working on for a while.  I just can't get the time to sit down and be disciplined about it.
